Years ago I was on the phone with Eric Borneaman, having a brief conversation about flatworms and sps, We discussed a number of rather interesting and important details over the course but what stuck with me the most from that chat was every time he mentioned acros he pronounced them just as the title is written.

uh..Crop..oh..rah..........................

Emphasis on the second syllable. Anyone else pronounce them that way?

Anyway. Thinking out loud there perhaps. Here's a pack of ten of them. However you'd like to say it. Kind of like nuttin but net pack. Just a bunch of sweet and collectable captive gems.

There's an old fragging video of him and he says "mon TIP rah" for montipora too. But then he says capricornis just like you would say it normally.

Agree and even I gave it a whirl myslf but I just sounded funny. Like I had to try to hard lol

I still feel like the oddball saying "key toe" (chaeto). Everyone else says Cheeto like the chips.

I think the rule for speaking Latin is to speak it like the experts do. Lol

I'm and ACKrowPOURuh man myself. It is really hard for me to wrap my head around merging part of the two root words into a single syllable ("Acro"-highest point, "porum"- pore).

That is like pronouncing motorcycle "Mo-TORSI-cal"

That's basically how it is pronounced in all of the romance languages.

I remember being so confused the first time I heard Eric say that. The mon TIP rah about drove me mad a few years after that in a conversation about a monti eating nudi treatment he was working on.
