My DIY stand was flush a day or so ago but has since bowed slightly. The tank is a 48x24x24 120gallon glass Marineland.

The gap on the front left corner is about 1/8" or less. I was going to put in a shim but I think that may do more harm than good.

The tank is empty, I was also considering filling it and seeing if the weight flattened it out.

I do not want to insert styrofoam/a foam may as that would be a poor choice for a glass bottom.

Is that 1/8" going to cause a crack/catastrophic failure? I know you always risk leaks in the aquarium world but that gap is a pain and keeps me up at night..

Thanks in advance!
AA

The tank top reads level on my 48" level.

You mean the stand corner being lower? I believe it is the stand yes

You may have answered your own question when you said it would keep you up at night. Try squaring the stand away, and you will sleep easier. An uneven stand will cause stress on the tank's seams over time. But then again, so do waves.

Update: I unscrewed the oak top and resumed underneath it to even things out.. Should have thought of that earlier. Now the gap is down to the width of a business card..or baseball card if prefer :)

Now that can't be a problem right??

It might, but probably not. However, not to add any more stress to your worries, see the other thread about Marineland tanks failing. That would be more worrisome to me.

Every manufacturer has a few horror story anecdotes out there. If it was a systemic/long known manufacturing issue that would be different.

Short of returning my tank and buying a new one I don't see any options

Googling Marineland DD tank failure or Marineland problems is like googling WebMD 'red spot'

It just terrifies you. Statistically speaking I would think the defect/error/break/problem category is minuscule compared to the number of tanks in operation.

Anecdotes and partial information really. Nothing on large recalls or systemic failures.

Breakthecycle2 - I am glad you said something. I was looking over my tank seals and saw an issue. I called the LFS and they will take it back. What brand do you prefer? They carry AGA/Aqueon & Marineland.

Thanks again!!
