Hell I have a reef octopus skimmer and it has been running around 5-6 months give or take. The last month the bottom part of the skimmer the cone section has becom dirty on the inside. It is just like the skim in the collection cup. Is this normal and how hard is it going to be to clean? as far as I know the bottom section is sealed and I am not sure how to clean it.

I figured out how to clean it. I did not think the opening was large enough to get my hand into, but it is. I just don't know why it was dirty that far down.

Thats where the detritus form the water column will settle. You need to clean it out from time to time. Removing the skimmer and hitting it with the hose is what I do.
