So I'm thinking about picking up a frag tank that's not drilled or anything, and I have and extra SWC cone skimmer sitting around so I was thinking about just dropping that in the tank with a couple power heads for flow. It's 12 inches deep and the SWC requires at least 9 inches. So I could just elevate it a little. Does anybody see a problem with this kind of setup? I don't have the room to plumb into my display and this seems like a very simple way to run a frag tank. Thoughts, ideas, input?

You're going to have a lot of micro bubbles and if its a Frag only tank I don't really see the need for a skimmer....I would run a reactor with carbon instead to help with any chemicals released by the corals.

Anybody on here with a sizeable frag tank have any input? The SWC160 in my sump right now doesn't spit out micro bubbles so that's why I thought I'd just be able to set it in there.

+1 on micro bubbles however disagree and recommend skimmer always. Are u planning on having fish to feed coral and/feeding coral? Then nutrient export will be important.

We have a skimmer in a 25g sump, for our 25g frag tank....... but +2 on a lot of micro bubbles.
