The last 5 years I have stayed true to my original mold... Ive always loved SPS and ive ALWAYS loved the look of Halides(radiums) and VHOS(super atinic) but..as the market has become tougher and tougher to get VHO's, I had to figure out a way to keep amazing color and growth. I immediately did as much research as I could and talked to a bunch of my old reef buddies, all the fingers pointed to T5's so I ended up with T5s again(i know i know all you LED users are going to be chomping at the bit) , all the reviews and comments from you Reef2Reefers helped a bunch! So i made the journey back into t5s and I jumped right in with ATI's Blue Plus bulbs. Ive ran them a little over a year again on my systems and have had decent results but not 100% satisfied with the colors I was getting. (haha who is ever happy with there tank), A friend of mine asked me if I would consider running the new Giesemann T5's, Hell I hadn't really heard that name for a few years It was like I forgot about the bulb who started the Reef Hobby for me! ..... so with a little hesitation.... it was time to order new bulbs.... I thought for a few days and decided to give them a shot I cannot express how happy I have been with the colors..!!!. I would love to hear from others if your Running Giesemanns bulbs or even if your running ATI's ! Theres a new bulb in town!!

Which Giesemann bulbs are you running? I'm tempted to try out their super acticnic on my next bulb change as I've heard a lot of good feedback on them.

Man, I have seen Josh's tank. That man is like a coral wisperer! He could grow corals under a glow stick :)!

I have always wondered how the Giesemann looked like.

But nobody I know has them and nobody sells them so I have always used ATI.

What is the Difference between these three Bulbs?

Azures
Actinic Blue
Super Actinic

They all sound like they are Blue Bulbs to Me?

How do they look compared to the ATI Blue Plus Bulb?

I would compare the Azures to blueplus's and the Actinic blue to a mix between blue plus/vho super atinics. The super atinics are extremely flaurescent and make the greens/blues pop!!!

So would you say then that the

Actinic Blue is "More Blue" than the ATI Blue Plus?
The Super Actinic is more like the ATI Actinic?

I am looking for a Bulb that is "More Blue" that the ATI Blue Plus

I want the All Blue LED Look.

I know I will never get that in a Bulb but want to get it as Close as Possible so the Corals have Maximum POP.

Actinic light means violet spectra. The issue is that violet spectra is low visibility for us and is easily 'drowned out' by any other colors. Actinic bulbs do not add to the 'blue look' that you say you're looking for.

The ATI Blue Plus is the highest radiometric output blue T5HO that can be purchased right now (probably ever, as manufacturers aren't investing in old tech anymore).

If you want the 'all blue LED' look, then you need to use all blue LEDs as that is the only thing that will give you that look.

looking for less white. more color
The two aren't mutually exclusive. The less red and green spectra your light has, the less non-fluorescent colors you'll elicit from your corals. If you're looking for mostly greens and some reds to fluoresce more, then add more blue spectra.

The 2014 Giesemann T5 lamps are now being distributed well and are stocked at the following resellers:

Giesemann T5 Lamps

Giesemann Lamps :: T5 Lamps :: T5 Fluorescent :: Lighting :: Champion Lighting & Supply

T5 High Output Fluorescent Light Bulbs for Aquariums

I know only Blue LED will give the exact look I want.

But in my T5 systems I wanted to try to get it as close as I can to that look.

Is the Geisemann Actinic Blue a Whole lot more Blue that Blue Plus?

That is what I really want to know.

To be frank, anything else that you try will not match up to it. Royal blue LEDs have a very narrow spectral half-width, you will never find a fluorescent bulb or metal halide that can be similar, it is not possible.

That being said, tanks lit by solely royal blue LEDs look horrific unless you only want to see green and red fluorescent colors.

The Giesemann Actinic Blue is not a blue bulb.
