Hanna 713 or 736 checker?

Which one and why? Looking to order tonight or tomorrow to test before I set up my new tank.

I am not sure which model it is but look for the one that tests the lower levels of phosphate.

I have a 713 and it tests fine for me I have low phosphate below 0.0_

Just make sure if you buy more regent pay attention to the number. I get my regents from amazon for it. Got them cheap.

The 713 if you get 0.00 on it your in no worries. Really anything below 0.0 is just fine. Don't think that you will be unhappy with the 713 because it is the one for phosphate. Also phosphorus and phosphate are not he same. It's about the only tester I would use from them. At least what the reviews have said

I use salifert for all other tests and have been happy with them.

You will be happy with either, but the 736 resolution is better.. It's just the little conversion that is a tiny bit annoying.. But I like my 736..

FWIW, I would have recommended the 736.

The range of uncertainty claimed by the manufacturer for the 713 is too large (IMO) at +/- 0.04 ppm.

That means a reading of 0.00 could be 0.04 ppm in reality, and 0.04 ppm could be anything between 0.00 and 0.08 ppm.

The 736 does indeed measure exactly the same thing (only inorganic phosphate), but for marketing reasons chooses to report it as ppb phosphorus.

Once you convert it into ppm phosphate, its uncertainly is still +/- 0.015 ppm, but it is better than the 713 and adequate for most reef uses.

FWIW, both detect only inorganic phosphate. The 736 just reports the value in different units.

I actually opted for the newish Elos Pro Phosphate test. Reads from .008-.14 with each kit performing over 150 tests. I had the standard PO4 meter and found it to be a complete waste of time and money. Always read 0.00 when others kits would always show something. I compared the elos and hanna low range kit and between the cost of reagents and the somewhat inconsistent results of different batch numbers of hanna reagents, I ended up going with the elos and I'm super glad I did. It's very easy to use and the results are consistent and easy to read.

Anyway, just my 2 cents

Me and a buddy just checked the 713 and 736 on his tank and mine.

His tank measurements
713 = 0.00
736 = 2

My tank measurements
713 = 0.00
736 = 11

So they are different and show based off the numbers ran above. I am going to be buying a 736 Hanna checker just to help me lower phosphate even more.
