I like this concept a lot... filler neck with cap makes for easy access, center hole return is a little iffy if the pump doesn't fill the unit completely... what do you all think?

This is what this say about it:

The round shape of AquaMaxx Omega BioPellet Reactors keeps media suspended and prevents clumping all while using smaller, more efficient pumps than other biopellet reactors in their class.

AquaMaxx? That looks exactly like the JNS Omega Biopellet reactor. HERE's a link to the JNS.

jns-omega-reactor-2.jpg

I have the "conventional" JNS Appha 2 biopellet reactor and I've been happy with that. These new design looks interesting. It definitely churns the pellets.

I have two conerns:
1. How you can blacken out the chamber in darkness. My current reactor, it was easy by simply using a piece of drainage pipe.
2. That filler hole looks small.....a pain to get pellets in there....I guess you use a funnel.

That's interesting. I think AquaMaxx was importing JNS for some time. I guess they've banged out some other kind of agreement. Go to the link I provided above and you can see a YouTube video of this thing running.

I did, it's the same video...

I might consider it, but would add some sort of a ball valve to slow it down... but light is still a concern, as you pointed out.

But what's "too fast." Do we really know. That being said, the pump looks exactly like the one I have on the JNS Alpha 2 I have, and if that is the case, there is a flow adjusting dial on the face of the pump.

ahhh, that makes a little more engineering sense... hoping they have one at MACNA in DC this yr... posted that on their FB page, fingers crossed.

And the final question is what are they going to ask for it. The JNS I have sells for $200.

Hey, I just found it at Big Al's for $143 HERE. That's not bad.....I was expecting it to be more than the one I have.

this design would not be that hard to copy cat, I have a lot of left over cell-cast... might see what I can create.

That pricing isn't that bad. Now for me, I'd have to redo my sump because I couldn't fit this relative large thing next to my skimmer. My skimmer just fits in that portion of the sump. So I'm not sure if this unconventional shape is a plus or minus?

I'll hold out for a bit, don't really need it just yet... and want to see it in person, if you get one please post up your findings.

I wonder if this could be used for GFO if the flow could be slowed enough?
