    Lightbulb Too much?

I ran into an amazing deal from a guy I trust. Basically it is a 400w MH set up in excellent condition reflector is a Lumen Arc III, ballast is a PFO magnetic 400w. I guess my question is should I run with this on my 40 breeder I am setting up or should I see if I can get a trade for a 250W DE set up? I love the galaxy selectable ballasts and hear they work very well on DE bulbs.

You can but you are going to have to really acclimate your corals. Personally i would get a 250w if your going MH as it will be plenty for a 40g breeder. And you can save some electricity.

Personally no way i would do that. Even ignoriing the light output the heat would be too much imo.

As stated above, it could be done, but you'll have to light acclimate everything. I'd reccommend sticking with the 250w to save $$ on your electric bill and prevent the heating issues involved with a 400w halide on that size tank.

I wouldnt run a 400 on a 40, that is 10w per gallon.. insane! But if it is a great deal, you could get it and then trade down for a 250w, but you will then be dependant on someone needing and upgrade and that someone having a decent light.

400W is a lot of light over a 40 breeder, a lot of light.... I personally would go with the 250

Thanks for the responces The 40B will be plumbed through a wall into a 75g sump, 20g remote DSB, 20g macro fuge, 20g Long frag tank... I am not worried about heat at all if anything that will help lol. For the price I am paying I have NO problem sitting on it for a year if I have to in order to find a trade.

There is not a bad idea - If you are getting a great price, you probably could resale and bank the extra money or do a trade for a nice light. I agree above its a little excessive.
