I have a 90 gallon reef and my wife wants a blue fish LOL

I talked to a guy I know that is the saltwater guru around my parts and when I said a powder blue tang, he said to avoid it as Ick is to common with them.

I take his word, as he is well know in the area and isnt trying to bs me. I have a pair of black and white clowns, and a yellow eye Kohl tang.

What would be a good tank mate that's a vibrant blue?

The blue tangs these guys are talking about really need more space than a 90. They're generally recommended for a 180 minimum by the time they reach full size. VERY active fish.

As far as ich is concerned, there is an easy way around that. QUARANTINE for 30 days before adding anything to your main tank. You might have to treat the specific fish, but the rest will be safe.

How about a Flameback Angel?

Not all blue obviously the yellow and blue contrast nicely.
Course this would depend on what kind of reef you have.

Would not recommend with acans for instance.

Yeah, a flameback MIGHT work but you need to be prepared to possibly lose corals with that one.
The blue reef chromis is a good idea but can be hard to keep. I'm not sure why.

With a 90 gallon the options for "reef safe" blue fish are limited.
Agree the blue reef chromis are strangely tough to keep, but they may be okay in a laid back display if those clowns are still juveniles.
Once the clowns mature all bets are off.

Anyway, I would probably try the flameback but I am more of a gambler when it comes to reef-safe-ness.
I don't mind the occasional nipping that may drive other reefers insane.

I have a scissortail dartfish that is blue and grey and one yellowtail damsel. my melanurus wrass (male) is also a pretty blue. your tank is much too small for a hippo.

Wow that blue reef chromis is pretty awesome looking! I'm suprised they're hard to keep, I thought chromis fish are generally easy to keep (if they're not bullied to death).

Yellow Tailed Blue Damsel? They are a really pretty bright blue with a gorgeous yellow tail. Yellow tailed blue damsels are not as aggressive as other damsels and they have awesome personalities. Fun to watch! In your size tank, you could get a few of them! :) I love mine. She gets along just fine with my 2 clowns in my small 30g. And she's very pretty.

Check out Azure Damselfish (Chrysiptera hemicyanea). I have three in my 120 and they have done great. Two are paired, I believe, but there is not much aggression from any of them. :)

I've had azure's before. Great fish and very colorful. Not much aggression if added last and bought small. :)
