My dad was down stairs getting food and when I went downstairs I just saw the back of the tank (which is a little open) splash. Then my wrasse landed on the top of the tank and I threw it back in.

Have any of your fish jumped? Did you manage to save them?

I think most fish will jump given the right reason. Open top tanks are nice but you should always play it safe with a screen top.

If you caught the act and were able to get the fish back in the water pretty quickly, it should be fine. I lost a few nice fish before I gave in to the screen tops...

Our cat scooped out my chalk bass one time. Luckily my son was watching and got the fish back in the tank. The fish is fine. Cat is recovering. I had forgotten to slide the screen back after feeding.

The only fish I've had jump was my sargassum trigger. :( not even sure why, I had him for over a year and then one night I didn't see him and found him a couple feet away from my tank

A while ago, I had a tank with glass tops and I dont know how my dotty back did it, but he managed to squeeze out of the small opening I had cut out on the plastic back strip for the filter piping. Luckily, I was in the room and because of its color it caught my eye on the white carpet and he was spared.

Wrasses are known jumpers. I had my clown fish jump down my shirt while I was doing tank maintenance.

I've had a wrasse and a goby that I've found on the floor before. The wrasse had several incidents and the first time was the last time for the goby.

I had my fair share of "fish jerky" a few years back.

Will never have a display without a screen cover again.
If you keep fish in an open top it is just a matter of time before one jumps.

ALL wrasses require a COMPLETELY covered tank. Any gaps will eventually lead to one less fish. 1/4" clear mesh works quite well.
