What is wrong with my yellow tang

That tends to be a bacterial infection with the Yellow Tangs

IS it possible for the fish to fight this off on its own? It looks better today. Only thing that has changed is I did a water change. I have read a lot and found that nitrates can cause this but I am just around 10ppm with my salifert. Maybe I am higher than I think. Guess it is time to cut feeding or get the fish drunk with vodka.lol. Think I will choose the later since coral look much better with more food and poop.

Nitrates do not cause this.. it's usually from a wound encountered during capsure or transit to us. Also can happen in netting the fish and transporting home. You can try soaking food in antibiotics and getting the medicine in that way. If it is truly a bacterial infection it will be 100% fatal if he is not treated. The problem is often when you see the redness the infection is already septic. So unless the tang doesn't have an infection and was just extra clear that day you'll need to treat

I have had this fish for 6 months, got it from a friend who had it for 2 years. I am wondering how it got sick, is it the water or maybe aggression? Everything seems to get along but I may have to remove some fish if they are fighting.

Hard to pinpoint but if the fish is eating well and doesn't seem affected may just be a very translucent fish. As aforementioned, if eating well, just add antibiotics to his food if you suspect it is actually an infection.

Yellow tangs in the wild swim in large distances in search of food from one algae patch to another, they are always trying to eat a variety of food. Yellow tangs dont do the best in captivity as well as other fish may, especially in small tanks with other fish. Try feeding it lots of types of greens and frozen prepared foods, hopefully it will get its color back.

I have been feeding nori every day and other algae. Looks much more like normal but am going to try the dr gs caviar with meds in it as it is reef safe. I am working on getting the quarantine going but it is not ready and as long as fish is still acing normal and looking better I don't want to risk it and lose it in quarantine. Maybe was just not getting enough algae since the algae in tank is almost gone since adding the fuge.

My alk Is usually really steady, I dose 12 even times a day to keep It stable. My ph runs a little high but stays between 8.49- 8.55 since added the fuge with reverse light cycle. I fed the food today and will say they seemed to like it.
