I have a 8 gallon nano that I need a fish that will help control my algae. I've added hermits and snails but they don't eat the longer strand stuff. It's not hair algae but some kind of other stuff.

I purchased some frags that had the stuff on them and it is now growing in my tank.

A lawnmower blenny will not eat it.

What are my options, I'm thinking that I don't have one but just wanted to make sure.

I'm not sure how to describe the algae. I'm not an algae expert, is there a place I can review the various types of algae?

I would be able to inform everyone if I could ID it.

Byprosis is easy, like RM said try the sea hare or the mag treatment. I prefer the mag treatment its really easy and effective IMO and in some ways can be beneficial.

I've just cleaned out the tank, somewhat. I removed all the frags that had it and then used a tooth brush, unfortunately I didn't get all of it. I will continue to do that and see if I can make a good dent in it. I've just got to stay on top of it.

That sounds like the best of action. It is tough dealing with algae in nanos.
