Just picked up a Blonde Naso with 1" streamers. He is not eating well. He picks at the rocks and will nibble on a pellet or 2 but that's about it. He has a pinched belly. I have tried all types of food with and without garlic. Ive tried 3 different colors of seaweed with and without garlic. Any secrets or suggestions I would appreciate it. He has been in my tank for 3 days. Thanks

I have a Naso that doesn't eat flake or pellet. He will nibble at frozen food, but not enough to sustain. He is a big grazer. The only thing that keeps him fat and happy is seaweed. He loves Omega One Super Veggie Green Seaweed.

A pinched stomach is a symptom of intestinal parasites. You may also notice white stringy poop. Treatment for that is metronidazole. However, that's not reef safe to dose directly into the water column. You can soak food with it however (except he's not eating.)

Where can I get metronidazole? My Naso has not been eating for a few days now. Had in my tank for almost a year. He eats everything from frozen brine shrimp, pellets, flake food, and nori. All other tangs or healthy.

Seachem Metroplex is metronidazole based. You can buy it online or LFS. However, just because your naso has stopped eating doesn't necessarily mean he has intestinal parasites. You would see white stringy poop if he does. Also, metro isn't really "reef safe" - I definitely wouldn't dose it directly into the water column. Some reefers have gotten away with soaking it in fish food - but if your naso isn't eating that presents a quagmire. :eek:oh:

I haven't been home to really watch him. I feed normally and notice he is not eating anything that I put in. He usually is pretty quick to get in and eat. He has been doing great for close to a year now. There is no sign of any symptom that he is sick other than a pinch stomach. It's been 4 days that I notice him not eating. He still swim around but slowly. I got some Metroplex on ordered, will treat him in a quarantine tank as a last resort.

Well guys he expired. No signs of anything other than a pinched stomach. He really looked healthy, nice and fat. He would take a few pieces of food but never really attacked it.
