NEW ORA "Brett's Purple Rim Montipora Capricornis"

Brett McGough, the ORA Marshall Islands clam farm manager, died in a diving accident on December 6, 2008. Brett was one of those larger than life individuals who made a positive impact on everyone he came in contact with. His kindness and unselfishness will be missed by his friends, colleagues and the Marshallese people.

ORA is naming the month's new coral in memory of Brett to honor all the good he accomplished in his short 26 years.

Although we are still working out the details, we are working with Brett's family to identify a charity that will receive the portions of the proceeds from the sales of this coral. Both of Brett's parents are teachers in Australia and we think they will likely choose the Marshall Island school system to purchase books and materials for the island children.

This beautiful montipora is green with a violet rim and greenish polyps. While it isn't new to some people, it's one of the most sought after color morphs of capricornis. This particular variety forms the usual scrolls and whorls along with some bumpy spires.
    -ORA

Wow, what a tragic accident. Also, what a wonderful way for ORA to honor this young man. I hope the sales for this particular coral reflect ORA's commitment to honor his memory!!! I'm sure the proceeds will be put to a very good use. Please keep us updated.

I believe this coral has been going by the name "Leng Sy" Montipora.
Hopefully people will understand the name change.
My condolences to his family and friends.

So nice to see the differences in mindset between the Reef 2 Reef crowd and the RC crowd. Much nicer here.

Very nice coral to commemorate the death of an ORA friend.

Ryan, WOW, you weren't kidding. After reading your post, I went looking for the thread you were referring to. Finally found it and after reading all of it, I was a bit disgusted, to say the least!! I had to post to that thread explaining my disgust. One more reason to visit even less...unfortunately...one of many.

I'm not sure of the rules on publicly posting a link to RC but I will PM it to you. If anyone wants to find it, first page under the SPS forum.

It's nice they are doing something to remember Brett by. The coral may not blow your mind, it might be something that is already in the name game, but it doesn't matter to me. It is a great looking coral and that is the only thing that matters to me. Placing Brett's name with it, well, that's nice too!

Don't see why there has to be hatred spewed toward ORA. Guess people just come to expect every new ORA coral to be mind blowing and have a special name...

I think the cap looks pretty nice in person. It is nothing really new, but it is a nice piece none the less.

Ah ok. I know some forums are picky on whether or not you can post links to outside forums.

Unless Moderators have removed some of the comments, I've read more than one idiot on that thread in the past few days.

MEH....that doesn't even have white polyps like the Leng Sy. I can think of several other types of monti caps that look better and are most likely cheaper.
