Brett McGough, the ORA Marshall Islands clam farm manager, died in a diving accident on December 6, 2008. Brett was one of those larger than life individuals who made a positive impact on everyone he came in contact with. His kindness and unselfishness will be missed by his friends, colleagues and the Marshallese people.
ORA is naming the month's new coral in memory of Brett to honor all the good he accomplished in his short 26 years.
Although we are still working out the details, we are working with Brett's family to identify a charity that will receive the portions of the proceeds from the sales of this coral. Both of Brett's parents are teachers in Australia and we think they will likely choose the Marshall Island school system to purchase books and materials for the island children.
This beautiful montipora is green with a violet rim and greenish polyps. While it isn't new to some people, it's one of the most sought after color morphs of capricornis. This particular variety forms the usual scrolls and whorls along with some bumpy spires.
