My wife recently said she wants to re-do the floors in the room that my current DT is in so I figured now is as good a time as any to move forward with the change. I warn you though this is going to be a long process involving the set up of a basement sump, frag tank, refugiums, ........................................ Needless to say its going to culminate with the 200DD as the final piece to be put in place. To start with I will be putting in a utility sink in the basement near where the sump will be. This area also doubles as the laundry room/storage room/utilitys room. I get a little corner on the far end with which to work.
Here is my spot.

And Here is where the first piece will be placed. This is the other side of the wall where the sump will be.

I am picking up a Deep Blue 80gal Frag tank tomorrow. This will be the new home for everything that I plan on keeping in my current 90Gal. Originally I was planning on just using my current 40B sump for now, but I may go ahead and get the bigger sump in place now too. Not sure which way I want to go with that though. I'm and leaning towards a 75Gal stock tank which will house the skimmer and pump since I do intend to run a completely separate refugium. I also like the fact that its easy to add a external pump later without drilling since they come with the hole in place, right? Though I like the traditional old tank as a sump deal. If I do a regular tank I'll probably go with a 90Gal and drill the hole for the pump, and just cap it off till I need it. Any input on that would be great.

As for the refugium I intend to go with a 40B that will also serve as a easy place to do my WC's. I would like to incorporate a separate circulation tank into the system that I could easily shutdown and drain to do my WC's but I'm not sure if I'll have the room. Therefore I will go bigger with the refugium and just shut that down for WC's instead.
I guess that's it for now. Get ready for a marathon

Been doing some thinking. My original plan was to sell the 90 when I emptied and cleaned it. Now I think I'm gonna keep it and move it to the filtration room. My plan is to use it as a combo DSB/refugium. The tank is 24"h so I figure a DSB at about 6"-7" then the rest for cheato. This tank will also be able to be taken off the system so I can also use it for WC's without disturbing the DT. I could easily drain down 30gal or so without disturbing the DSP or exposing the macro to air. Doing this will also increase my water volume to around 400gal.

By keeping this tank and stand I will also use the space below for a 40b to be used as a top off tank. And the area next to this stand will be the stock tank for a sump.

Thoughts

Little more progress.

Last night I finished the utility sink.

This morning I worked a little more of the stand. And found out that my floor has a low area at the front right corner. It sits about 1/4" off. So a shimming I will go.

Also I picked up the stock tank yesterday and hope to get a couple of 40b's tomorrow to use as a refugium and circulation tank.
More to come later

Was rolling along today until

Bad news:
Went to get some water to refill my topoff tank in my 90 and found that the water in my brute container was frozen solid. Fearing the worst is reached for my rodi filter and it too was frozen solid. 4 of the 5 canisters on the system were cracked and I had to spend $140 to replace all the filters and canisters. Looks like the booster pump made it through, thankfully. To make mattered worse, the 40b intended for the refugium and the 20g high intended for the top off for the basement system were found shattered in the garage. Unfortunately I store all my equiptment in my garage and it is as cold as the outside weather and that meant single digits for the last few days. For some reason I forgot all about it.

That's it. Thanks for looking.

Still lots to do though. I figure around 3 days to fill. On Thursday I pick up the 65 gal tank I'll use as a refugium and the sand for the DSB is on the way. Still got to mount some stuff though but with the snow day today and my day off Thursday I figure I'll be running by sat or sun latest.

New update.
Water is at capacity and I was hoping to get the DSB in today but UPS screwed me and I'll have to wait a few more days. Tonight I'll be adding a bit of stone I have been saving up and a nice piece of LR from my other tank. And the cycle will be underway.

This will be the refugium with DSB

And my RODI is all back to normal and ready to go. Got this to shut off when storage container is full. Pardon the mess

I don't expect the cycle to go to long considering I'm really just transferring everything over from my 90. Really I just want to let it run for a couple if weeks to work out any issues.

Not sure if I'm gonna build one, have one built, or just go with the marineland. Leaning towards getting one built for me.

So I've been moving along and started transferring some corals to the frag tank today.

Here is the frag tank in place

Sump with reactors and dosers in place
tazuqaje.jpg

Refugium though I still need to add a bit of sand which will come from the 90 when I break down. Also has my snowflakes in there for now. Not exactly sure what I'm doing with them yet.
pymapyra.jpg

Picked this up the other day and intended to use it as a circulation tank but low and behold it's all tempered so I made it a salt mix tank instead. 47gal.
9e2ygyme.jpg

I set up PVC to hold a syphon so that I can pull water without having to use a pump.
6eqaqy6e.jpg

Here is the whole shabang. The empty space will be for the circulation tank. I'm planning on either a 44gal pentagon or a 37gal pillar to use there
epe6yta8.jpg

Next up is to continue moving corals and stone. I also will be ordering my skimmer in the next few days and I need to get a new light for the refugium, leaning towards a 2 bulb T5. I figure that should be plenty to get to the bottom of the 24" tank. Anyone have thoughts on that fire away. Till next time thanks for looking.
