So I'm shutting down my 20g reef to safe some money and pay off debt. I was originally going to entirely shutdown the reef but a friend suggested a low tech macro pod farm and I had to do it. So plans for light is 1-2 cool white spiral bulbs.. 23watts I think? A heater, small pump and 20ish lbs of dry rock. Adding about 1" of sand maybe maybe and just rubble or crushed coral substrate since pods are monsters for going in any crack and space to form some babies.
Macro options and pieces I'll get are:
Shaving brush, mermaid fan, hamiladea?, dragons breath, green codium sp, chaeto, another fast growing red macro. Maybe ulva leaf. Avoiding caulerpa cuz of my bad experience in my 40g display. Kind of got out of hand even with regular pruning.
If I don't use those spiral lights then I'll be using a single par38 full spectrum bulb. It does give the darker look so might give the pods the dark spots they want and the par range for the shaving brush and mermaid fan to still flourish.
I'll post pics tonight. Me and the gf placed and glued the rocks so there ready and won't move when we start it up this weekend.
Any input will be greatly appreciated and hope for it to be an interesting tank. Not many display fuges locally for me so I'm stoked. Plus I know how much pods loved the codium so it should help lots
