Hey everyone! New to the site but not the hobby. I have had a mediocre 55g with hang on filter, T5 light and eBay protein filter. Decided to step it up to an innovative marine 40g. Thinking about a kessil a150w 15k light. Any thoughts? Also, there are two heads built into the tank. Is that enough flow or recommend a second source? Any tips or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

went with a kessil a160. Pretty nice light. Adjustable from 10k-22k. Also grabbed a hydor skimmer. Hopefully gonna get some water and rock in it this weekend.

*Welcome to Reef2Reef!*Great start.I would also recommend adding another circulation pump.Maybe towards the bottom as your tank looks quite deep.

still settling but I'm loving it so far. Definitely going to need another source of flow. Looks like I'm spending a little more than I wanted.

You will need to think about more light and flow if you are looking to add corals. You are off to a good start........be patient, it took me a year and a lot of learning, battling algae, equipment issues, fish selection, water chemistry and I am just starting to learn about coral do's and dont's. These forums are a great help.

That picture doesn't just justice to the amount of light in the tank. Definitely need more flow. Thought the pumps would add more than there is. I'll be adding that this weekend

Do you have the 360 rotating nozzles for your pump return or the standard fan type? I have IM24 and added the rotating nozzles and a MP10 pump. I am considering another pump for the other side of the tank.

I saw thought. Read mixed reviews. Heard ppl say they clog up and stop working. How are yours?

Been running for 1-1/2 years no problem, have not cleaned them yet. Starting to get coralline algae on them but they are still working like new.

Any thoughts of a 150 is enough light?

The Kessil is plenty of light. People tend to underestimate them and I'm not sure why. Is it because of it's size people think it's puny? I think you'll have plenty of light penetration. I think your depth is 16"-19" or so? I have the a150 with plans to get to the 160 mainly because of the controller. I have a standard 40b tank and it is plenty of light.
As for flow, definitely agree with more.

Yeah I just ordered a tunze nano stream for it. The light is a a160 so it's adjustable. Pretty awesome feature. Started with 15lb of live rock. Really excited for this set up.
