Hello all,

My name is Adam and I am from south Louisiana. Wanted to share my 120g mixed reef tank with you all here. Hope you enjoy!

The Tank
Planet Aquariums 120 gallon rimless
external overflow
48"x24"x24"

I ordered the tank on Monday, June 17th 2013 and it was delivered Wednesday, June 26th 2013!
The tank sets on a 2" square tubing steel stand that I built.

I built the stand myself:

Here's what I started with
29003DA0-FB99-4A79-8EA0-1B210A12E6D3-23426-000002881B508A8A_zpsfd7457e0.jpg

I ground out 45° corners on all the pieces clamped it together and started welding
45E87064-1B63-483B-804F-8003F7803F95-23426-00000287D08BC1C9_zpse5eaa991.jpg

I didn't want the tank sitting on the square tubing so I fabricated a few quick leg extensions. I cut 1" pieces from one of my drops and added half inch plate to make a little cube. I found some rubber feet with threaded holes, welded a bolt to the underside of the cube and screwed the rubber foot onto the bolt.
CC1ABC9B-39EC-40B2-B0E3-CB056582DDFC-23426-00000287E3BCA702_zpsbc0cc5f5.jpg

This will also help with leveling the tank, my work wasn't perfect so having the ability to raise or lower each corner will come in handy. Here's a shot of it welded on the frame.

Got it all finished up and didn't waste a bit of time. Straight to the weight test! ****
Grabbed a rough casting of one of our parts that weighs 1800lbs!

Let the part sit without the cranes help for about 15 minutes I even tried to shake it a bit. Didn't budge!

Only thing left was to prime and paint.

I set the pieces on the stand, but I still need to secure the top piece and put a brace across the bottom to support the plywood for the sump to sit on

Thanks for looking!

Well! When the tank came in, I was so excited to get it.. but when I walked in the door.. the first thing I noticed.. It WASN'T rimless!

I was pretty upset, but due to me moving out of my house I didn't really have a choice but to keep the tank and deal with the issue.

Aqua Hut, the LFS who I ordered the tank through, was very helpful and apologetic. Even though it was not their screw up. It was Planet Aquariums fault, they loaded the wrong tank on the truck.
Luckily, this tank was a rimless tank that they added a rim to by mistake.

So to solve the problem I simply removed the rim and John from the store came out and cleaned the silicone off the top. You can't even tell it was there.

Planet gave me a nice discount and John from Aqua Hut made sure I was taken care of.

So, anyway.. without further adieu, here are some pics!

What I really like about this tank is the external overflow, it's done really slick and it looks great. Not to mention it doesn't take up any room inside the tank.

This tank was being set up as my previous 120 was being broken down. I used most of the water from the old tank as well as the rock.

Thanks for looking! More to come!

I made the transfer all in one day with the help of a reefing buddy.

You see, what had happened was..

It was a loooong process, but we managed to take some pics along the way.

Started at 8 am
I disconnected all the equipment, cleaned it, and boxed it all up. I started bagging corals and Drew (seaweed) showed up to help. Thanks Drew! We bagged all the coral, drained some water and took out all the rock.

I got some styrofoam ice chests and put all the coral in them.

This process took much longer than the first time I moved, I've got a lot more coral now, lol. All in all, things were moving along great.

I had some Rubbermaid containers to haul the majority of the water and the rocks.

Once all the rock was out we drained most of the water that was left and caught all of the fish and put them in a big 4' ice chest.
65CED60F-1665-4BAD-BAD6-6BECC8183923-5513-00000185C8168D4F_zps27da13ac.jpg

With everything loaded up, we headed towards the new house. I decided not to keep any of my fish and John at Aqua Hut was nice enough to take my fish and give me store credit. So, we dropped all the fish off with him and went to fill up the new tank!

Originally, I planned to put the rock in first, but I wanted to keep it all submerged so I decided to put the sand in, then the water, and finally the rock.

This water container came in handy, filling up all the water jugs.

Adding water to a tank with sand in it, can be tricky. Wanted to be careful not to stir it up too much. With this little trick, that task was went off without a hitch. Using a dinner plate, resting on the sand bed, we poured the water directly onto the plate. The plate deflects the water and keeps from stirring up the sand too much.

Within an hour, the tank was clear and we immediately started aquascaping the rock work.

After the rock was scaped, we floated the bags of coral and let them acclimate to the temp of the tank.

While the corals acclimated we fabricated a PVC light rack to hold the radions

Then mounted it to the stand behind the tank by screwing through the PVC and into the stand

Here's what it looks like mounted

Around 12:30 My friend had to go so I finished up cleaning the sump and the skimmer, and adding the water to the sump. Today we hooked up the plumbing and got everything going.

The next morning I took some pics of the final product

So.. I broke down and spent money on something other than the tank, for once. I purchased a Canon t5i camera and a few lenses, the 18-55mm and the 55-250mm.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Everything in the tank has been doing really well. The corals are growing like crazy and my fish are getting fat and happy. Bryan from Aqua Hut stopped by the other day and was amazed at how much the Achilles had grown. I took a few pics of the tank, some side shots inspired by mr coldjoker himself.

Here they are, hope you enjoy.

Wow! Beautiful set up! You didn't have any issues transferring everything into the tank without a cycle?

Love the Achilles Tang!

Wow! Beautiful set up! You didn't have any issues transferring everything into the tank without a cycle?

Love the Achilles Tang!

Thanks! Actually I had a very small bloom that you could consider a mini cycle. I used about 80 gallons of water from the tank that was previously set up and running for over a year. All of the rock also came from the previous tank so I basically added 30g of new water and a new sump.
