HI Guys new here in R2R,been reading a couple of posts lately,as said in the meet and greet section i used to keep a couple of tanks in the past of fresh water and then years ago i went to marine fish and then to reefing, last year i set up my last tank in my bedroom in my mums house but due that i will be moving this year house and decided to not keep stocking and spending money on a tank to move the next year,so i started a new project in my new house in the living area, most work like stand and fake wall/unit,is almost finished and tank and sump put in place, next will be plumbing and D.I.Y liverock, for now the project is in on and of perioud due to my house finishing and lots of $$$$ going out dont know if i laugh or i cry loool, well this setup i have in mind must be well lets say try to be an attraction in my living or say a feature, must be energy efficient, and mostly hassle free(i know its impossible but lets try to do silly mistakes done in the past). My rules in reefing are REASEARCH-PATIENCE-PLANNING with a lot more but with these in mind we should have some good base to start.

Well some info on the setup:
-Main Tank Woha AquARIEN 12mm Crystal Glass polished 160cm x 60cm x 60cm (576lts/152gls)
-Sump WOhA AqUARIEN Trickle drawers/Protein skimmer/Refugium 120cm x 50cm x 60cm (216lts/57gls approx)
-Return pump Boyu GXP 10,000lts/hr Variable pump (good build and silent tested, sturdy built and is like Red Dragon and pushes a lot
-Tank Circulation 2xJebau wp-40 (also tested and kicks a heck of power waves, and got the new controllers as well with approx 8 modes if not mistaken
-Teco Tr-15 chiller from my last setup should do well and will be used as an emergency situatiom due that i did a/c in my living appropriately for the tank well at least i keep cool as well in summer not the fish only
-Now for skimmer and lights i havent yet decided,as for skimmer i was opting for the tunze 9410,as it is small and compact but kicks for 1000lts of water whicg i think is good enough for my planned system what would you guys suggest???as for lights still confused on what types to use,for sure leds but????? europe made, usa made, china made, they all seem hi-tech and certificates but still in clouds about them, got interested in some quality leds by usa build,BUILD MY LED company which they seem kick ***,i intend also to get my hands on a neptune systems apex controller but eu version already had a good chat with some nice guys, and a couple of more equipment,as told guys right now i am on the on and off in the project but now i am on the planning mode for plumbing and d.i.y rock making as for the base of the tank is ready as you will see in the next couple of pics of my progress hope you like and help me out with my future problems in my Quest feel free to ask and suggest pls.
This is the wall where all the setup will be.and works started for electrical and water supply
I remember the sump design but can't recall why the shelf's in the back are for?
What's your idea for ventilation through the stand?
It seems you're on a multiple story home as I see a balcony, is the home/apartment build of concrete/stone?

The build is looking rock solid and will be following this as it goes.
Good luck and a Happy New Year yourself.

Hi Diesel yes infact you are right i live on the 3rd floor
Photo0245.jpg
This is my view from the balcony :) can see half of Malta from here :) as for the ventilation of the tank stand i have made the gypsum boards to the ceiling like a channel so it can disperse upwards and made a ventilation pipe which than i will connect already bought just install a powerfull extractor fan small but pushes a lot of air with 20watts power hope you can understand from the photos,it works simple just have to install the thermostat to extractor,so that when i set a temperature it kicks off,

as for the sump usually they pack them either with bio-balls which i think i will exclude or some bio media like bio pellets or bio home that will have still to decide on them
Photo0247.jpg

my other concern with the sump is about the skimmer as i wish to install it in the first section of the sump but it is only 17cm wide and there ar eonly a coulpe of skimmers i can install there mainly the Tunze 9410 or else i can fabricate a skimmmer box and install it next to the sump that is one question/problem i wll be tackling in the plumbing part of the thread and hopefully in the near days coming :) hope i answered your question Diesel :)

Sundown on Malta...................oh how I miss those things in Life.

About the sump, why not putting LR (liferock) in the sump instead of bio-balls.

Yeah, live rock is better than bio balls. I made rubble racks to go in my sump

Yep Jimbo662 thats what i was opting out for the shelves, live rock rubble stacked in the shelves, water would trickle from the inlet water, and btw nice rubble rack.

Diesel have you ever been to Malta :)

Yep, in the 80's.
I stayed at a place called Zabbar, we did a lot of cycling and up and down the island many times.
Well, that isn't that big deal cause the island isn't that big.
We also took the ferry up to Gozo.
Been there three times total but that's about 30 years ago too.
