Hey everyone, I've got another thread about my tanks that's more of a tank diary that's just sort of documenting any changes and stuff that's going on with my other 2 tanks. But now that I have a new tank, I think it's time for a proper tank build thread!
I got my 120 delivered yesterday with lots of bits and pieces to sort through. I got the tank, stand, sump, plumbing, $500 of lava rock, filter media, a heater, nets and all sorts of goodies or an absolute steal.
I so excited, nervous, happy, worried, and plenty of other things too!
Pics to come...

My stand after a couple of long days sanding, priming and painting.

It still needs another coat of the matte black, but it's still looking good! I also need to replace the door handles, I took them off to fix up the stand, but still managed to get some black overspray on them lol.

Thanks, I'm really happy with how it's turning out :)
I'll hopefully get it plumbed and ready to leak test on Monday.

Thanks :)
My fish list isn't quite finished yet. But so far I've confirmed a Valentini puffer and a Snowflake eel. Other fish I'm considering are a Kole tang and a Foxface. I'd love to add a nice scorpion fish or two too. I found a gorgeous Koran angel today that I really want, but I know how big they get. Im a bit torn on that one.
When things stabilise and I get a decent light I'm thinking of turning it to a reef with a few Fungias, a Euphyllia garden and a birdsnest or two. That's if my puffer behaves himself around corals too lol.

Keep in mind that tangs and possibly the foxface, any nippers for that matter, could nip and possibly kill a scorpion fish. Also be prepared for the waste they produce and their mouth sizes. They are able to eat way more then most think.

Stand turned out nicely!

Thanks for the heads up rayn.
I was actually considering making it a scorp only tank, with some locally caugh red rock cod and some Lionfish. But then I'd have to get rid of the fish I already have.
The scorpions are just an idea I'm throwing around at the moment. If I get one, I wouldn't get him any bigger than about 2 inches.

I just had a thought. Maybe I could do a scorp and eel tank. I could put my valentini in the sump (if I end up modifying it) and let the snowflake enjoy some scorpion friends. I now have something new to think about :)

Gutted the baffles out of the old sump today. I'll get some glass cut and silicon it all up properly tomorrow then leak test and it's time to fill this bad boy with water. Oh yeah!!

New pics :)

My first attempt at cutting glass (the bottom edge). Didn't end too well lol.

Siliconing the baffle in. I wedged DVDs in there to hold the baffle in place.

Just have to wait a week for the silicon to cure and I can clean it up and leak test it! I put copious amounts of silicon on, so there shouldn't be any leaks :)
Speaking of new pics, when will we see some new ones of your tank build rev? :p

The silicon on the sump is cured. Leak testing the first chamber right now. I don't see or feel any leaks yet :) I'll give it a few hours and drain it and see how the other side goes!

The guy who designed/built my tank didn't add teeth to the overflow/weir. I build this today, but don't know how to attach it to the tank. I don't want to use silicon as I want this tank up and running this week. Maybe superglue?
Does superglue bond plastic and glass?
