I kept reef tanks for ~5 years when I was younger, when it came time to go off to college I broke my tank down and kept my LR in a 20L for 6 years with minimal lighting and minimal WCs, yea 6 years . Me and the Wife got into a house ~8 months ago and I decided it was time to set up a tank again. I went to my folks house, transported the rock in 5 gallon buckets and I was in business.
Several things have changed since I set it up, but this is how things stand as of now.
Equipment:
20 Gal Oceanic Tank (24â€x18â€x12â€)
Acrylic Overflow box
10 Gal sump
Sicce 1.5 Return
Precision Marine RL100 Skimmer
Jeabo WP10
24†Aquamedic 150w HM + 2 T-5 fixture
DIY ATO and Battery Backup for the WP10 (good for ~36 hours)
AC battery backup for the return pump and heater (good for ~24 hours)
Fish:
Yellow Clown Goby
Inverts:
Emerald crab
RBTA
Handful of hermits
Coral:
A handful of generic zoas
Torch
Lobos
Couple of acans
A few Chalices
Three Trachys
Acanthrophillia
A few generic Favias
Little plate
I have had a few stumbles getting back into the game, a blown ballast resulting in a SPS die off and general brown out most notably, but I’m feeling pretty good about how things are going now.
I do a few gallon WC every week or so, and spot feed HEAVILY every other day (Mysis, cyclo and reef frenzy slurry) , top off with Kalk water, but other than that my maintenance is pretty minimal.
