I'm new to R2R and thought I would start a build thread. I have been without a tank for several years. My last tank was a total loss during a hurricane. I was so heartbroken I took a break from the hobby. Now it's time to get back in!
I am gathering equipment and building the stand.
I plan on having the 93 gallon display tank with a 30 gallon frag tank sitting next to it on the stand.

Here are a few pics of what I have so far.

I did it's sitting in the garage still. Just finished 4x priming the stand. I'm waiting on plumbing parts then I can set it up to test for leaks. Researching lights at the moment.

Progress is slow since I only have Saturdays to work on the stand. I am building it at my dad's shop 30 min from my house. Can't wait to get it home so I can put in more time.

All I did was the top, bottom and back. Next week I hope to do the ends and doors for the front. Maybe a coat of paint.

Wish I had more pics of that old tank. Unfortunately I lost everything in a hurricane several years ago. I had a ton of stuff in there. Wish I still had all those rics, it took me a while to put that collection together.

How are you going to plumb it? Use the kit that came with it or Herbie? I'm doing Herbie on mines.

Btw did you inspect the tank yet? The bottom pane on mines look pretty shotty. I guess you get what you pay for.

Are those bubbles in the silicone? I'm going to check the bottom seems when I get home. The vertical seems are all good.

Well I want it to be quiet. I hear the Herbie is silent. Do you have any pics of yours? I haven't seen any good pics of how to set one up.

welcome back to the hobby w.gurney! I loved the pictures of your hex tank - we don't see hex's in this hobby very often and a mixed reef at that! I'm sure your new build will be awesome!

Thanks! I like tanks with some depth. That's why I went with a cube for this build. After some hard times I'm finally in a place where I can get back in with a nice setup. I took me a while to save up and to convince my wife I NEEDED it. She agreed to the 93 and I slipped in the 30 frag tank. She is going to kill me when she sees the 82" long stand I am building. I oversized it a bit to hide all the equipment and possibly a larger frag tank down the road.

I did some research on the Herbie and that's what I want to do. The trick is the gate valve. I wanted the emergency drain anyway so this setup is perfect. I was planning on using a sea swirl on the return to help make the flow more random. So I can use both predrilled holes for the drain.

I also checked the silicone job on my tank. Mine looks good. Yours is a marineland right?

Yes marineland same as yours. The side seams are fine it's the bottom one. Did you open up the cardboard bottom yet?

Good to hear. A few people are saying they have the exact same crappy seam on their 93. I guess I'll have to do some vinyl work to cover it up. Yes it's that bad. I even wrote to marine land to see what they think.
