My wife and I just purchased a 75G, 60"Lx24"Wx12"H, 3-sided starfire rimless tank and we cannot wait to set it up! We appreciate any help, feedback, criticism, etc. :)

Equipment List:

AQUARIUM- 75G, 60x24x12
STAND- Custom DIY 60x24x36
SUMP- Custom Advanced Acrylics 24x20x16 BubbleKing Concept
PROTEIN SKIMMER- Vertex Omega 180i
ATO- Tunze Osmolator 3155
PLUMBING- BRS Schedule 40 Red Color
LIGHTS- ATI 48" 6x54W with 48" Reefbrite Blue XHO LED
CONTROLLER- Undecided
RETURN PUMP- RLSS DC Waveline 4000 or Eheim 1260
TANK FLOW- 2x Ecotech MP40wes w/ Battery Backup
ROCKS- Minimalist Aquascape MarcoRocks
SUBSTRATE- Barebottom (I prefer barebottom for nutrient-control, but my wife loves the look of sand!)
HEATING- 2x- 200W Eheim Jager
COOLING- Fans (Our house has central AC and stays cool 24/7)
DOSER- Kamoer 3 Channel Dosing Pump
REACTORS- None
CHEMICAL FILTRATION- BulkReefSupply GFO and GAC on mesh filter socks

Pleas let us know if there's something we missed..

Most of our equipment will be purchased during Black Friday next month, so we can use the money we save towards fish and corals! :)

Stay tuned...

For flow, we've decided to have one MP40 w/ a battery-backup and one Maxspect Gyre XF130 (35W)!

Do you have a stocklist of fish you plan on putting in this tank? Does the 12" height restrict you at all?

You may want to go a lot taller with the stand, something in the order of 48" or more. Otherwise you're going to be squatting down to look inside the aquarium. With the rimless you're going to lose 1-2" of depth depending on where you overflow is positioned (any higher and you'll have water splashing out). Then if you end up having sand you'll lose another 1-2". So your effective space goes down to 8-10". It may be tough to view this narrow window unless it's close to eye-level on a really tall stand.

You'll also want to consider putting a screen top on the tank, with some creativity you can mount it flush with the top rim to maintain the clean look of a rimless edge. The midas blenny will most definitely jump, as will the wrasses, and probably the firefish. I highly recommend putting a top on the aquarium, especially with the shallow configuration.

I would get some feedback on individuals with MP40's on shallow tanks, the issue is that it might create a vortex and suck in air due to the shallow depth. Might want to consider Tunze for a linear-flow option?

Thank you for your feedback! We actually love top-down views and we want the tank to be children-height friendly so a 48" total height (stand and tank) would be perfect. And yes, we will definitely be putting a 1/4" BRS screen top to avoid carpet surfing! :) and as for flow, I got an excellent deal on a MP40wES (manufacturers date 5/14) for $250 and I couldn't pass it up! I will also be adding a Maxspect Gyre XF130 (35W) when they come out!

I would recommend the Dimmable SunPower ATI's. The colors are amazing during the ramping periods! I agree with the above about the MP40 in a shallow tank. The Maxspect Riptide looks promising, and that might be all you'll need! You can always sell the MP40, ya know!

I had the dimmable fixture on my previous tank and loved it! You're right, I can always sell the mp40 if my corals love the gyre pump! :)
