So after searching high and low for an aquarium that would not look like a monstrosity in the house, I have decided to modify a fluval edge as it is one of the few overall good looking small tanks out there.

Needless to say it will need a lot of modifications to make is suitable for my future marine critters.

I will post updates of my progress as I go along. I am still new at this and learning as I go along. Please feel free to give me advice.

Here is what I have planned

Led Flood lights:
10w RGB
20w Cool white
LED moonlight

10 or 20 g Sump/refugium with
Weipro SA 2011 skimmer
UV filter
Cobalt MJ2000 return pump
Jebao rw4 wavemaker

First mod: Overflow box built into the back of the fluval edge.

I got some .220 clear acrylic from home depot. First time I have ever worked with this material so it was a bit tricky.

After looking at the column of the Edge I realised there were plastic ridges sticking which would make a perfect place to rest the overflow box onto instead of trying to attach the box to the column.

I made the box big enough so that I can still fit the wires of the LEDs next to and past it.

I still have to drill the holes but I have not worked out what sizes it should be yet.

I will do a Herbie overflow with a loc-line return, so there will be 3 holes.

Plumbing done and dusted. I used pvc fittings to make the bulkheads from HDepot. Will add loc-line for return.

I am posting many pix as I am sure there are other Fluval Edge moders looking for ideas. These LED floodlights will have to do until next xmas.

Feel free to give me any tips on this lighting mod. I happy with it so far. Still need to paint the metal bracket and add screws to Edge plastic frame to support the metal bracket.

Sorry guys I have been away for a few weeks. I got to finish the cabinet this weeks. Will move onto the refugium next weekend then I can start cycling.

The cabinet I got from Ikea and the legs from Lowe's.

What adhesive did you use to glue the acrylic "bridge" to the fluval edge's plastic part?
