I'll be customizing this Fluval Spec V, and having an SPS dominant "Mini" Reef.

I'll be entering the Fluval Spec V, White version. Currently have it empty and will be taking pictures of the set-up this next week. I plan to add sand, rock, and water no later than June 25th.

So I just started yesterday.... But I have spent $0 on corals out of pocket starting out. I have worked with my LFS- OK-Sea Aquariums to make some trades with an abundance of euphyllia ( "Frogspawn") corals that I have in my 175 Bowfront DT. I have also been growing out some small "fraglets" from local legend- Paul Whitby. In an attemtp to not blow the $500 budget, I have slighly manicured each of the little zoa frags that I had paid $10-15 each for to get an array of corals into this 5 gallon masterpiece.

Also, in addition to the little frags, I superglued a "MAT" of Green Star Polyps onto a uniqely shaped rock for my back-drop. Also including a handful of Xenia from my DT to help with filtration aspects. So far the biggest hurdle was destroying the HYDRO pump to retro-fit it into the TINY compartment we shall call a filter box. This took extensive cutting and sanding down of the pump to get it to fit for added flow. I should now be turning 260 GPH on this little guy.

*Also to clarify, the Zoa fraglets in these pics are all commons, and none cost more than $15 for the entire frag. Also I did not use all of them but only 2-5 pollyps per frag.

In addition to the pieces above, I had purchased two rather large branching tubastrea "sun corals" for $48/each, and then I ended up in transit having a couple of fall-offs that I then utilized. and by falloffs they would not cost more than $5-10 for each of the three pieces.

I also have added three TINY frags of montipora to this set-up. 1 red fall-off piece from miscelaneous droppings at OK-Sea aquariums for $5, 1 brownish green basic for $10, and 1 green montipora confusa frag that I got for $10. *I've also added 1 basic ricordea that I purchased from Paul Whitby of HighDefCorals for $15.

*I thought about adding some maxi-mini's or doing more of a ricordea garden but it seems like that is what EVERYONE will be doing..

Thank you Revhtree.
Stay tuned.. there is more on the horizon.. I have yet to determine sand bed or no sed band...,lighting configuration for the long-haul, and additional coral selection.

**I will need Reef2Reef to evaluate the costs of Green star polyps, and to also re-evaluate xenia and common zoa polyps being such high prices, with the common zoa frags being no more than $10-15 covered on frag plugs at local fish stores.

So I decided to go with a sand bottom. I just added sand from my existing DT tank. i've also been adding a few more pacific nerite snails and stomatella's as they are my favorite little cleaners, and other than a few TINY nassarius, and blue legs, i've added 5 sexy shrimp.

I am currently gathering up all of the reciepts I happen to still have, and working with my primary LFS= Ok-Sea Aquariums to go through their database and my tank as to what all i've purchased from them to include as well. Most of the current fraglets and zoa sprinkles have either come from the $5 miscelaneous fall off baskets, and even then I've gathered 2-3 polyp clusters as cheap as 3 clusters for $5. I've even managed to get a couple "ANT" sized shrooms thrown in the clusters. one of my coolest finds was an ant sized "fire coral" that came in on the two clusters of branching dendro's that I purchased for my DT.

Also... I really didnt' want to post any pics yet as it is far from completely finished.. I am still working on a few "broken" frags that i've gotten at VERY heavily discounted prices and trying to see if i can get them to grow enough to make worthwhile adding to the tank. I even happened to get a $5 staghorn piece that broke off a HUGE mother colony but I can't decide whether or not to add because of the lack of color.. what I like abou the staghorn is the same reason I put the $10 birdsnest frag in which was the dimension and depth it adds.

Wow nicer then my 75 keep it up

**Thank you Ryan! This is a labor of love. I will add that it is MUCH easier and it gets easier the longer you do it. I've had several Nano's over the years and they are 10X times harder than my 180gal Bowfront DT. Best advice I can give is frequent and consistent water changes.
