I tried the other set of optics I got with my bulbs... 90's came with it and I was told the spare set were 60's but when I tried them it gave much more even coverage, thinking they were actually 120* or so. Either way its much better.

Is there any problem with buying a heater too large if it is on a controller? I am still having issues with this room being too cold and the 175w of heaters struggling to keep up. Was thinking of buying like a 200 or 250w titanium heater and building a DIY controller. I wouldn't think it would be a problem but I'm not sure.

5 days in with livestock and fish are doing well. Just found a food they are happy about eating, the pellets I had they spit back out, thinking they were too big. I tried some frozen mysis and they went after it but spit most out again, thinking most were still too big. Ended up trying some chips/flakes and they eat them up once I crumble them up small.

Lost one of the hermits, found him out of his shell and upside down the other day not sure what happened.

Things are well so far!

Survived my first waterchange with livestock yesterday. Everyone is well... snails have discovered the glass finally and are exploring all over the place.

Bad day for fish... Was doing a water change on my now somewhat neglected freshwater tank, had just cleaned the cannister and was sucking water out with the python and one of my giant danios swam under and got sucked into the hose. Reversed the flow and dumped him back in but he must have scraped on something his guts were hanging out and he was twitching all over the place.

Have him in a container being iced down to knock him out now :(

I've been jumping on all the $10ish frags I come across. I've been watching your thread as my tank is the same size very similar in age.

Thinking of moving the zoa to the rocks on the left down lower, reserve the higher rocks for something with more stringent light requirements. Moved it up here after having it down there because a crab wouldn't leave it the F alone.

We went away for 4 days, mother in law was watching the tank, she called today after 4 days saying the lights haven't been coming on and the clowns are laying sleeping on the bottom. Had her check the temperature, 57.6. The GFCI outlet tripped.

I'm assuming its a total loss. Wonder if the bacteria is still alive?

This has brought be close to quitting the hobby now.

So much planning and effort go's into our hobby, not to mention money, only to take a break and relax and the wheels fall off! I am really sorry to hear this. I have only lost a maroon clown and a blue eyed cardinal so far but I know how bummed I was. Can't imagine what you are feeling like!

Thanks, still out of town, 9 hour drive home tomorrow to reflect. We were attached to those fish.

Home. Clowns and the gramma are dead as expected. Zoanthid is a goner as well.

Hermits and snails seem to be ok.

Going to do a water change tomorrow and watch it for a week before adding new clowns.
