I know there's been a lot of posts but I haven't found a definitive answer on if they are safe to store salt water in.

Any thoughts?

I use the brutes on casters for RO/DI water, but not for salt... no particular reason why.

I use them and I know of many others that do. There are many different options you can store in. I think these just are preferred because of price?

Thanks for the replies, I've just seen people saying they leech phosphates. So was sorta worried

I have used them for over almost a year and have tested both the fresh water and salt water after sitting for a week and didn't test anything that wasn't supposed to be there.

+1 and if you do use one raise it up and put a valve on it so your not always opening it up every time you need water

bingo! This makes life sooooooooo much easier. Mine already came like that, bought them from another reefer. All that it takes, is a bulkhead, some PVC and a ball valve. The way mine is setup, the bulkhead is right in the middle of the bottom of the brute and then it comes out with a 90º turned down right for the bucket! It's simple, but effective.
