So.... My new 90g tank is up and running. I used 60lb dry rock that I did and acid bath and lanthanum treatment then dried for couple months. Also used 40lb dry sand, rinsed many times. Because I had some, I added about a 1/2 dose ( 4 oz ) of Bio-Spira and dosed ammonia to 1ppm with Dr. Tim's ammonia. As was my initial plan, I pick up some raw shrimp today. Not wanting the shrimp and subsequent "slimy blob" that ensues floating around the tank I dropped the shrimp into the filter sock. I figure its a high flow area which will speed up the decay process while keeping the mess contained.

Anything I'm not thinking about that may negatively impact the cycle by doing this?

Well it does, in fact, work! After only 11 days its gone! When I used the floating in the DT method it took nearly 3 weeks to dissolve completely. Guess the high flow helps.
