I am a fan of trying out new salts on the FO tank that I can use for my reef tanks. I am currently using Seachem Reef Salt. I love it, but would like to know what others are using and why.

You can pick mutiple salts.

That poll is kind of old and some of today's popular brands are not on there. For example, I switched to Aquavitro Salinity. A while ago and love it.

That poll is outdated and does not have some of the newer salts. I am using ESV now but used TM Bioactif a yr before that. Both great salts but since switching to esv a couple months back my cerinth snails r laying egg clusters like crazy. Call me insane but never once did they do it using the bioactif? Corals love it so I am going to stay the course.

I am just getting started, as in I will be mixing my first batch tomorrow night.

After lots of research I will be using red sea coral pro. I will let you know how it tests on mix up and how well it holds after a couple days.

Is it bad to switch salts in a reef tank?

It's bad if they have very different parameters and you do a large water change. I have read where people will mix 50/50 when switching salts.

I use Oceanic for the original question. I have used it for over 4 years. I tried several others but always come back to Oceanic.

I was using IO and am in the process of switching over to Aquavitro Salinity. I'm switching slowly and started out 75/25 IO to Salinity and have slowely changed to 20/80 over the course of a few months. Also note that if you change salts, you may have to adjust your dosing regimen.

I see there are a number of people using Aquavitro Salinity. Do you have to rotatre the bucket to get all of the different sized particles to mix? I have read that an issue with that salt is the larger particles settling down and not having the proper levels when mixed.

I haven't noticed an issue, but I'm still on my first bucket.

i have always used IO and never had one problem, however, i cannot get my PH up to where i would like it and i was wondering if it might be the salt

Always a possibility. What is your Alkalinity? What do you use to buffer your pH? A lot of time when people have issues with their pH, it is because their alkalinity is low.

Many factors can influence low ph. I recently switched from b-ionic 2 part to brs, and my ph shot up from 7.8 to 8.1
