IMO, the dosing isn't so much the hard part. That is if you do your homework and follow the rules. I was wondering the effects of stopping carbon dosing. Can you stop cold turkey, do you have to carbon dose forever once you start regardless of N03/P04? These were the issues I had. I was doing vodka dosing and then switched to Red Sea NoPox and then when my N03/P04 were barely detectable. I wanted to stop, but I read about the horrors of stopping cold turkey somewhere. What I ended up doing was slowly over the course of a few months was decrease my dose and then go every other day.

Nothgin happens when you stop cold turkey, I've done it several times. Your Nitrates slowly build back up again, and you either do water changes, throw in pellets or vodka dose again.
No good answer there. Its what you want to use.
Im just one guy. I like Vodka Dosing. In order to screw that up, you'd hav to drink half the bottle and accidently drop the other half in the tank. In other words, hard to mess it up.

I like vodka. Cheap and I stopped using carbon because I got the clarity for a fraction of the price.
1/2 gal of vodka = $15 5LB bucket of carbon= $90 That's about six months worth for me for either one.
