Doing some research to get my macro algae growth up. Saw a post from RC on CO2 in a planted system.

Coming from freshwater i had multiple planted tanks and I dosed with Seachem Flourish Excel for CO2 (not comfortable with the gas method).
I had good grown in my tanks and i was thinking can that be used for my macro tank also? Or would that practice be in bad taste?

Not sure about excel but macros do lower co2 just like in FW aquariums. So that the tank FW and marine can become a net consumer of co2 and producer of oxygen each 24 hour period.

The whole idea came from me reading on reefkeeping.com about Seagrasses. As i dont have seagrasses atm (but I REALLY REALLY want some) i was looking at their nutrients which a primary source (if im reading correctly) is CO2. So It made me think. I was using Excel for my FW tanks for CO2. Can't I do the same here? Would it be the same effect?

Excel is just a carbon source. It's not quite the same as CO2. Excel also has some stuff in it I wouldn't want in my reef. Seachem won't come right out and say it but I've heard it contains formaldehyde. I don't want to know what effects that could have on inverts or anything else.

Feed the tank more.
Lesson your water change %
Add more fish.
Lots of people would love to have that problem.

Guillard's f/2 Microalgae grow would be a good option 1ml per 5g should do the trick. But I have also wondered about running C02 in a reef tank. But I am worried that it will lower the PH too much.
