OK so we are buying a house and it has a water softener that is attached to the whole house. Is it safe to run that through my RODI system to make my water? Or do I need to find a way to tap into the water before the softener to make my RODI?

Yes, it is fine to use. Most RO/DI makers recommend it to help the membrane last longer, but the DI will likely deplete a little bit faster using the softened water. :)
