He threw a packet in my refugium. The powder part melted the 2 liquid parts of the packet got taken out. Wife called me I had her shut the refugium off within 5 min. Rushed home and shop vacuum the fuge and sump along with a 50% water change. All my corals were closed when I got home. After wc they are open again. Just praying maybe it won't crash.

Sorry to hear this.

Skimming and lots of granular activated carbon to remove the detergent.

Detergent is not going to be kind to them, but hopefully you can get it out adequately.

Okay ty. I have 6 cups of carbon in a 2 bags in the sump. Brand new. along with the 60 gallon wc. It's about 130g system total.

Skimmer is going nuts the wife is dumping it every 15 min. I have to go back 2 work!

Once, in an emergency, I dumped a whole pile of GAC onto the bottom of my sump, then sucked it back out a few days later. Only do that if flow is low enough so it doesn't sweep into the rest of the tank, however.

If all else fails it will be upgrade time! 140 gallon reef savvy tank. Lol. Idk probably atleast a grand in live stock. Time will tell now.

it sounds like you've taken some really good steps to take care of it....if it was those plastic packs, I don't think there is a ton of powder detergent in there and the gel packs you got out right? With everything you've done, I'm thinking you should be ok. As you've said, time will tell. I have to say it was sweet of your son trying to help dad clean his tank - my guess is by the reaction of dad - no more detergent will go in the tank - ever

He's not quiet 2 yet. He can only get in the 2 side doors but just enough to do what he did. The wife let's him help with dishes in the dish washer so he gets the packet and puts it the the washer than starts it. Well today he figured the tank needed one also. Yes fishroomlady it was just powder. So I'm thinking I'm okay cause my Z's n P's open back up right after the wc.
