What else does it do differently? Thanks Paul4140

It is very different. It drives bacterial growth, and in some cases, feeds higher organisms. Without any N and P being added with it, those creatures need to take up phosphate and nitrate (or ammonia) to grow. Hence, nutrients are lowered and the bacteria are available as food for filter feeders, such as sponges.
