That can be normal for a week or two - part of their cleaning / stress response. As long as there is good flow, that waxy layer will shed.

When was the last time you changed your water? How much and how often do you change? Have you tested for Mg, Ca, PO4 & Ph? These are important to leathers as well. What kind of lighting do you have? I found that my leathers don't prefer LED unless off to the side of them. Have you tried moving them to a different location? What do you feed your tank? My leathers love reef snow at least once a week.

Is something nipping at the leathers? Have you tried placing them a bit lower in the tank? (My leathers do best at about the middle of the tank)

Agreed, changing flow is huge. When my pumps hit reefcrest my leathers get blown off and retract some. Then with low varying flow they reach for the sky.

At least there alive, something doing nothing is better than something dying. I've seen leathers tolerate a wide variety of light and flow and it's normal to have a waxy layer but softies like nutrients. N03 and P04 both at zero is not a plus with softies. It might not stick out it's polyps because there's nothing to filter feed.

How is the leather doing? I was thinking of something... leathers do tolerate a bunch of variables except too much light, ammonia or too high salinity... over. 1.026 is max for them. I saw my leather shrink up overnight once and even though i use a refractometer (had not been recalibrated in a while) my sa was 1.030! Just dropping sa down to 1.027 caused it to show signs of life, got even lower and like magic it was big and fluffy again. Just a thought....
