So I got my test results and sort of ironically according to the Triton error correction sheet I'm supposed to do a few water changes to correct some parameters. What salt is recommended? If triton has salt where and or when can I get it?

Thanks!

Was it hard and confusing to test? Also what was pricing for the test? How many do you get as well?

Well that stuff settled to the bottom then I tested the alk and got 8 at 1.026 salinity so I figured that would be alright. I did my water change(roughly 10%) and everything looks happy. The only odd thing is my pH before doing a water change was 8.26 and after the water change it had gone all the way up to 8.5. My alk in my system was 7 but I retested an hour after the water change and got about the same reading around 7 (salifert test kit). I took some of the water that was removed for the water change and tested it with my ph probe and it still tested at 8.26 so I really don't have a clue what drove the ph up so much.
Anybody have any ideas?

I tried Tropic Marin salt and I got cyano. I have switched to reefers best with great results. This salt is part of the zeovit program.

What is analytical grade salts Ehson is talking about?

AR grade (such as Analytical Reagent Grade) is a high grade of salt purity. Not of a salt mix, but of the individual components of a mix, such as sodium chloride, potassium bromide, etc. It is a set of specifications that is determined by groups such as the Amercian Chemical Society for each individual material, and then if someone meets those specifications, they can slap an AR grade label on the bottle.

The specifications limit things like heavy metals, specific contaminants that might be in each based on what it is or how it is made, etc. For example, the AR specifications for calcium hydroxide are:

AR (ACS) Grade Calcium Hydroxide Specifications
Assay Ca(OH)2 > 95%
Chloride Less than 0.03%
Magnesium Less than 0.5%
Iron Less than 0.05%
Potassium Less than 0.05%
Sodium Less than 0.05%
Strontium Less than 0.05%
Sulfur compounds (as sulfate) Less than 0.05%
Acid Insoluble Substances Less than 0.03%
Heavy Metals Less than 30 ppm

There are many other sorts of grades that one could equally use, such as pharmaceutical grade (USP, BP, etc.), food grade (FCC), water treatment grade (WCC) etc., or frankly, no grade at all if you were convinced it was appropriately pure (by your own testing or the manufacturer's, for example). :)

The Triton test showed no iron in the water. The test showed a lot of aluminum. With a 2" to 4" sand bed and no water changes do you guys think the sulfide in the anaerobic area will react with the aluminum and cause the aluminum to dissipate?

When you say Tropic Marin, are you recommending the Pro salt or the Bio-Actif?

Also, Have you tested HW-Marinemix Reefer salt? Results?

Thanks so much!

Any updates on the US salt recommendations or test results available? I am changing water to remove heavy metals, very curious to hear recommendations. Currently using Kent Reef salt.

i got a salt brand called aquaraise tested, results are not that bad.
I noticed silicate was high, but this is likely due to my RO needs changing.
