I'm using my Samsung Note 3 and the pictures are turning all washed out.

Just curious what cameras you're using....and if an el cheapo $100 digital camera can suffice?

I have access to a $3,000 professional DSLR my buddy owns. But I wouldn't know what to do other than push the button.

Pray? No just joking. Check out the photography forum. Also, if you see photos from a person that catch your eye, PM them and ask. Most are more than happy to help.

I have been having trouble with pictures from my cell phone too. A friend of mine told about these lighting gels that take the blue out of the pictures. Basically it's a tinted thin piece of plastic that you take a picture through. They have been working well for me so far still playing around with them a bit. I'll see if I can find more info for you.

Yeah the orange films are what you need to take out the wash..... Still hard to get great photos though! Google blue no more reef and you'll find an article but I know mike isn't selling them anymore.

It's pretty dead on color wise.

And these are with my Galaxy s5. When I really take photos I shoot RAW and then use photo shop to white balance.

Galaxy s5 and camera mx to adjust white balance. Make sure everything is off if you're taking a top down.

I have a Note 3 and the trick is to go to your camera setting and change white balance to incandescent or fluorescent, Fluorescent will give you a blue look but will still be crisp! Then turn your white exposure as low as it will go I think -3 press the phone right up against the glass and you can get some decent pictures. Nothing like a DSLR with a macro tho...

I use a lumix gf3 with extension tubes when needed. The key is to get your white balance adjusted properly. I also have much more success when I turn my blue less way down and turn the whites up. I usually use my flash when photographing fish, but not when photographing coral.

I use a little bit of all these suggestion. I use camera+ for iPhone. It's a dollar but it has endless tweaking effects. Also, focus on a white coffee filter and lock the exposure. Then focus on your tank. Sometimes this helps. But the best is to get an app with separate focus and exposure options. Tweak the white balance and then tweak the photo after exposure an you end up with this
