Please help! I'm looking to buy my first LED unit. It is for my 40b and the budget is $350. How can I tell without seeing the light in action what the coverage will actually be? I live where the only LED's being used are MarineLand.

Thermal Management is Key

All things equal a fixture using Cree X Series LEDs with a junction temperature of 25 Degrees C is 15% brighter than the same running at 85 Degrees C.

3 Watt Bridgelux Knockoffs can be at a greater disadvantage due to their design.

Also...Heat and Excessive Heat does not play well with electronic longevity.

Oh my god I wish I had seen this article sooner! Definitely struggling to keep different coral alive with my LEDs, and now you mention some key facts that I didn't know, I realize where I have made my mistakes! Arghh....

what is your light schedule? what are the peak for blues and whites?

consider reefbreeders photon 24, here is mine over my 40b. this is with 90* optics, and it lights the entire tank very well (see below for a better pic of coverage). I've gotten great color and growth from it IMO.

this last photo (a terrrible photo) is to show coverage and that it's not dim around the edges like the above photos suggest, that is just from the way my phone takes photos, it's adjusting to the brightest part of the tank..

I have 2 Orphek Atlantik V2.1b. Really like the color, but nothing like what I saw those tanks with MH Radium bulbs. Just wonder if any one here have the Atlantiks and have better results.

I run the atlantik compact and couldn't be happier.
Sure these may be no comparison to mh but then we are talking apples to oranges

What country are we speaking of?
LED technology has come a long way.
I don't think i can say a brand is fake. There are a lot of differences in fixtures.

Yes lps coral will live a long time.
14k is a good target but remember led fixtures are deceiving to the eye.
A par meter will tell you A lot. Do you have access to one ?
