Holy ****! How can this be? Is it from the pump Jeb. Something in the water. What are the parameters PO4, KH ..... Perhaps the problem in the source water.

Just finished reading this whole thread, amazing build and sorry that downfall happened....I got one question though I don't know if I missed it but always curious to know what everyone does for water changes ...frequency and amount if u don't mind me asking? Good luck

Yikes. I know your pain man. I've had some insane loses in my time too. I'm betting that pump was leaching heavy metals (maybe copper?). The good news is that with time everything can and will come back and it will be like it never happened.
