Sorry things got rough for you, @WallyB, but very glad that you're powering through. Glad the tank overhauls are going well. All the best to you, sir!

Glad to see things on the mend ! ! :)
Thanks @Daniel@R2R and @Fudsey,
Really Appreciate your supportive words.
Even you guys asking "For an Update" was nice.
R2R is a little like Family to me. A De-Stress Outlet place I have to get away from Life's Challenges.
Right now I don't have the Energy to post all those play-by-play updates (maybe a good thing...I posted too much).
My Focus/Dedicication for now is the Tanks, and hope to show something special if things go well.

About time for a Post/Tank Photo (Might get me interested in the Tanks again)

Not much to show in the 110 Gal Office SPS Tank. Looks Boring, till I get motivated to mount the Frags.

But the 90 Gallon Kitchen LPS Tank is like the last 10+ years. I do nothing. It's does fine.
I don't even Dose 2 Part. Water Changes....have stopped about 4 weeks ago.

I am 100% convinced it's success is just OLD AGED Live Rock, and a Lot of Rock.
Live Rock must just be a natural filter since the skimmer on that tank I clean way less and any other setup I have.

This it it with the new LPS aclimated now.

(Actually tomorrow or Sunday, there may be another update Photo for this Tank)
That's becuase my Brother in Law is shutting down his Tank with a few more LPS, and bringing some more Corals over
50573954713_fa0dbd47df_h.jpg

That Hairy Mushroom ARCH Patch on Top Right something I got to keep an eye on (Prune). Very invasive Shroom.
It is the Home of the Clowns that Host the Patch (so I like it, but it must be contained).

Dead Center is one of the Bubble Tipped Anenomes. It's Split sister is at the back of Tank, you can see tips just to the right and up.

And that Large Prized Specimen, on bottom Center/Right with the Green Tips is a 24K Torch. It's spectacular.

This is the first time I actually got a Photo of Every Fish. 2 Clowns and Two Tangs. (Not much for a 4 Foot Tank, but they all get along incredibly well)
Those Two Tangs (Purple and Yellow) Never Come to the Front of Tank. They either Hang out in Caves, or at back.
Inseperable.

I do have a couple of new Fish in QT ready to go in (2 more weeks), hoping to put a bit more Life into the Tank.

2020-11-06_QT-Fish.jpg

Top left is a Midas Blenny, and Top right the Long Nose Hawfish. Very active and not shy at all.
I kind of regret buying the two small fish at bottom, they will vanish in the 90 Gallon. I may put them into the Sump Section with the Two FatHead Sunburst Anthias.

Take Care.

Till Next time.

Love the tank Wally ! ! !

Are you sure that's a Midas and not a Canary? Looks more yellow than a Midas but I could be wrong. I have a Canary and a long nose in my tank and they both are very active. :)

Hey @Fudsey,

Are you sure. He doesn't look like a Canary when I googled him up.
I think he was Sold to me at Store as a Midas. (I think....I'm not 100% these days)

I'll get a better Photo, but he does has the Midas Blue Eyes.
Also when I brought him home he turned like Dark Grey.

2020-11-07_MidasOrCanaryGrey.jpg

It took a while for him to get back to Yellow.

Here is a better OLD Photo. For Now.
2020-11-07_MidasOrCanary.jpg

He is certainly more Yellow Now.

In pics it's hard to tell. The Canary is just full yellow, eyes too. IIRC the Midas' color blends pink/purple/yellow and sometimes orange too, or any combination and the blue eyes ;) Yours looks more Midas though.

My Canary:

SPS TANK PHOTO ( Been Worse, Been Better, Nothing Special Now)

Just a quick photo with my Phone Camera. Not inspried to take SLR photo's at this point.

I do kind of feel like Giving up on SPS, but they won't let me (just because some look Good/Color getting Better, and showing improvement).

2020-11-16_110G-SPS-Tank.jpg

At least the Rocks look nice. Perfect for a FISH ONLY Tank. Speaking of Rocks....

I also have some hope since I'm about to get an 100-150lbs of Hand Me down Live Rock from my Bro-in-Law Shut down tank.
His rock is pest free since he never kept Corals. No fish for about a year.
The plan it to just Load up my Sump with Live Rock after the Select Pieces go into DT.

Never Hurts to Have extra Live rock for Natural Filtration.
MOre nooks and crannies will give me room for More Fish (if I decide to go Fish Only Live Rock).

Yeah that is Particle Board Plywood behind the Tank. Doing Some Reno, and it's fit there nicely.
For me Doing anything with my Hands, is Soul Therapy. The simpler the better.
Tha's why SPS tanks never do well for me. They need maticulous attention to detail, even with Automation.
Who knows, maybe the less I touch, tinker, the better the SPS tank will do???

HAPPY NEW YEAR to Everyone.

I've been really busy, distracted, so have totally Neglected the Tank for weeks.

BEST THING I EVER DID.....
2020-12-31_GlassCleaned.jpg

When I peeled/scraped the Glass Clean.....

Sure there is some Cyano, but a lot of good stuff too.
I was shocked to See Growth, Colors, and Encrustment like never before.

Onward to 2021, and hoping this year will be better every way imagineble.

Looking good Wally ! !
THanks @Fudsey,

Here is my 2021 New Years Resolution.

To Not Kill as many of these (SPS Frag) as I have Last Few years.

2021-01-01_NewFrags-I.jpg

2021-01-01_NewFrags-II.jpg

NEW FRAG LIST: (not in Photo order)
  • RR Sugar Lips
  • Ice and Fire Milli
  • RR Pink Cadillac
  • RR Rainbow Loom
  • RR Wolverine
  • Blue Tort
  • Blue Tennuis
  • Marvin the Martian
  • Red Planet
  • Ultimate Bonsai

I've been analyzing what I have or have not done over last 3 months that turned things around.

  • Hands out of Tank.
  • Feeding Fish Less (I've been over Feeding in past)
    • I've been exclusively Feeding Frozen over last year or two.
  • No constant Lighting/Flow Adjustments to make things better.
  • Simply let the tank Ride, and stayed away from Additives (other than 2 Part ESV).
    • Adding Aminos aways put me into a fight with excessive Cyano outbreaks.
  • Not cleaning the Skimmer as often
    • Something I noticed (My Algae Scrubber took over, and Grew Cheato like Crazy)

I get the feeling I've been trying to keep the Tank too Prestine Clean. Stripping off the Nutrients.

I did watcha BRS Video not too long ago, that stated one should not run Multiple Filtration methods (ie, Carbon, Skimmer, GFO and Algae Scrubber, and filter Floss). I've been doing exactly that.

My plan is the following SIMPLE Adjustment:
  • Less Fish Feeding Just Frozen 4 times a day.... (Smaller portions of Mixed foods: Pellets, Flake, Frozen)
  • Carbon in small quantities just to remove any toxins.
  • No more Filter Floss in Sump.
  • Running Skimmer during daytime and turning it off at Night (while Algae Scrubber Runs)
  • Will continue GFO in very small quantities, changed out every two weeks.
  • Blow off the Cyano and not try elimiate it (with Chemi Clean)
Worth a try since Past as been nothing but Roller Coaster Up and Downs, and constant SPS loss.

One more NEW 2021 Change in SPS TANK

Never since I started my Office Tank years ago. This 110G or the Past 60 G, have I had anything but SPS in them.

Going to Try one Euphylia and see how it does.

2021-01-01_FirstEuphylliaGodenBranchingHammer.jpg

It's a Golden Branching Hammer.

Found the lowest Flow Spot I could Find on Bottom.

Bit scary since it's shaking quite a bit from all the Flow.
It I can't find a spot for it, it will be moved to my LPS tank where flow is much much lower.

That GOLD Hammer Idea (in SPS TANK) was not a good one. Barely lasted in the SPS tank for 10 minutes (Just enough to get that Photo, when it became clear the Tank isn't Euphylia Friendly)

The Hammer is now in the Kitchen LPS tank.

When it attempted to open up the SPS TANK Flow was just too much.
Not worth risking such a nice specimen.

I think I mentioned that My Brother in Law was shutting down his tank and handing down to me some things.

Today I got a call and 30 minutes notice that he was on the way with his first shipment.

Glad I have an semi-Empty Frag Tank.

He brought over all his corals and some initial Live rock pieces.
HandMeDownCorals-Rock-1.jpg

Now everything he brought was grown from Tiny Frags (single Heads) that I gave to him years ago.
Mostly Trumpets, Frogspawn, and some mushrooms.

HandMeDownCorals-Rock-2.jpg

This will be interesting to see how these Corals react since they have been in a Tank with Next to Zero Nutrients since he stopped having fish like 2 years ago.

His lighting was also set to low, but incredibly they grew like crazy.

I raised my lights extra high, and certainly am curious how these corals will respond in my Semi Filthy Frag Tank.

Got Another Midas Blenny (Last one Vanished)

I never posted anything but after Completing QT, the Midas Blenny was only seen for one day after transfer to DT.
Both fish Vanished on day two in DT.

I wait a couple of months, and gave up.

Last week to my suprise the Smaller Goby showed up. Way at the back of the tank.
However no sign of the Midas Blenny.

So I Got another one.
While at store, I found a unique fish (Box Fish)
BOTH ARE IN QT and doing well.

Yes I read about the Possible Dangers of a Box Fish. He will go into my Frag Tank, not DT.

Glad I made the video, since it caught something in the CLOSE UP, I didn't see with my eyes.

The "BOX FISH" has ICK on his fins. You see it in the video.

So I looked closer in the Tank with my Eyes, and I see the specs on fins.

I just started COPPERSAFE Treatment!!

JUST PROVES why ONE MUST do QT to Not risk DT's Lifestock and ruin things.

QT Update (Box Fish & Midas Blenny)

The QT is going well. Box Fish Has Ich last 2 days, but today it finally disssapeared.
I will continue with the Full 30 Day Copper Treatment.

This Box Fish may look tiny and cute, but he Eat's Like a Horse.

He can Chow Down Large Chunks of Frozen, that only my Largest Fish will take.

Both are doing well, and getting a Photo of the Box Fish is pretty tough, since he never stands still for long.

I did get one...."FOCUSED" Photo....Finally. And by by luck got both fish too.

More Hand Me Down Live Rock ( Sunburst Anthias PAIR ) Sump Refuge Upgrade

So my brother in Law brought over his Live Rock (all due to shutting down his Tank).

The FATHEAD Sunburst Anthias just had a Ceramic Castle in their Refuge Home.

Old-Setup-Anthias.jpg

It did the job but I read that FATHEAD are cave/cliff fish and need lot of hang out caves/crevaces.
They didn't swim around much, and spent more of their time in or near the Castle.
THe hovered in one place, with no where to expore.

Now the New Rocks changes all that.

SunburstAnthias-NewRocks-3.jpg

They Love it. Totally swimming around and exploring.

SunburstAnthias-NewRocks-1.jpg

SunburstAnthias-NewRocks-2.jpg

Refuge looks much more attractive now.

I'm considering some extra Decorative CUC and possibly a few small, non-aggressive fish.

Box Fish (Completes QT Healthy) Move into Frag Tank (Midas Blenny Jumps out on Last Day!!! )

The Bad News, is yesterday, the day QT was suppose to end. The Blenny Dissapeared. He was there day before.
I found him behind the QT Dead. He jumped thru tiny Crack since the Tank was Sealed (Except I tiny slit where the BioFilter Hung)
That's explains why the Last Midas Blenny Dissapeared from my Kitchen DT.
I won't bother trying with Jumping Fish anymore.

The Box Fish was much more important to me, and he Made it. I cured his ICK in the Copper Treatment, 30 days.
BoxFish-FragTank-0.jpg

Really a socialble and fish that isn't scared of my presence.

BoxFish-FragTank-1.jpg

I decided not to move him into the Refuge with the SunBursts.
Reason is if a Box Fish Dies, it can kill all DT fish with his Toxin.

He will be safer in my Frag Tank along with the Pair of Picasso clowns.

BoxFish-FragTank-2.jpg

He loves the extra space and unlike QT, he has live rock, and I already see him pecking around eatting pods.

BoxFish-FragTank-3.jpg

One Negative Event (Fisn Jumped to Death), two good events todays.
