WEIRD CREATURE in my LPS TANK ( Peanut Worm?? ))

Late at night when passing by my other Kitchen LPS tank, I noticed a long and fairly thick tentacle probing around my Turf Macro Algae Patch.

It actually looked like a finger poking around. Had long reach 6-8 inches.
When I shined my Phone Camera light on it, it retracted.

So I turned off lights and came back. Brought my son, to show it.

Next time I.....GOT THIS PHOTO. Should have done a video.

2020-05-30_NightWorm.jpg

I googled worms and this one looks like a Peanut worm, since it's smooth, unlike a bristle worm with centipede like tentacles. (more like a dew worm for fishing...Similar tentacle thickness and my BITA Anenome)

FREAKY!!! (Never Seen anything like this, in 20 years of reefing)

MORE "SCARY" than a MONSTER Peanut Worm (my NO3/PO4)

This is New Territory for me.........

My
NO3 dropped to 1.0ppm
My PO3 dropped to 0.01 ppm

For years I struggled to get N&P down. It was always around N=25 and P=0.2
My Target for the SPS tank was N=5-10 ,and P=0.06-0.1 (low but safe)

From Reading in Past, I think that Bottoming out Either N or P to 0.00 is bad.

I don't want to do anything Drastic.

-> I reduced my Algae Scrubber Photo Period
-> I reduced the Flow thru my GFO
-> I will start Feeding Fish more.

Good idea?

I don't think I need to buy some Nitrate Additive, but doesn't hurt to buy some.

SPS CATALOG (110G SPS DT)

I didn't plan on Post the N&P post above. Caught me off guard.

Was going to post this Update SPS Frag Inventory.

2020-05-30_FTS-110G-SPS-Catalog.jpg

Things have been going so well....I scared about the N&P, since so many nice Frags are at stake!!!

Feed more
Yup. I am. Fish love it!!

Will test again tonight. I expect N&P to rise.
Lucky that both are down since if P was high it would be a bit more tricky. (Probably would use GFO to bring it down along with more feeding).

Kitchen 90 Gallon Mixed Tank (FTS) FLOW increase ( Golden Aussie Torch Recovery )

I don't post much about my Kitchen Tank, since I do nothing.
IT'S KIND OF WILD and I like it that way (less work). Natural.

I almost lost the Aussie torch a few months ago. But I reduced flow to almost nothing and it came back strong.

However the other corals were not happy, so I just increase flow couple of days ago. (Everything is getting happier)

2020-05-31_90Gallon-Mixed-KitchenTank.jpg

The Bubble Coral is starting to out grow the tank. Has many arms, but still not possible to cut to reduce size.

The two BITA's that Split from one, found each other and like being together.

Those Hairy Mushrooms (Top right) I used to cut and throw in GARBAGE.
After the Clowns hosted the Patch I left them, since really cool to seem the snuggle and squirm in the Shrooms. (Looks comfy)

Aptasia is spreading ,but I got he Berghia's coming tomorrow.

I LOST the Flame Hawk last week. Found him on Floor. He jumped out when I was doing maintenance but never noticed.

Tank needs a few more fish (All I have is two Clowns, The Helfrichi FireFish, Purple Tang, and Yellow Tang).
Might do a bunch of gobies.

After a PIG-FEST Feeding Day ( N & P ) N-Down, P-Up

Well my P quickly rose to 0.06 ppm (Just where I want it).

However my N dropped down to 0.04ppm.

I'll keep feeding. And I've stopped rinsing my Frozen which I did two weeks ago trying to eliminate the Cyano.

Got to be careful not to bring P up much more. Might consider a bit of nitrate Additive.

I GIVE UP ON SPS !!!!

No nothing has gone wrong with the SPS DT.
It's doing amazing.

It's the Frag Tank. Those Pacman Frags I put in there. EVERY ONE DIED!!
Glad I put in the Better pieces into my DT. They are doing Great, and Look Great too.

So I'm going to start having FreeSytle Fun in the Frag Tank. Easy Stuff like Mushrooms.

But I got to Clean it up... Rid it of the Aptasia, and I even found Vemitid Snails under the Rocks.

So below is the New Thread, just about the Frag Tank. (to not clutter up this Postive SPS thread)

Starting off with a Berghia Farm.

UPDATE on ( LOW N&P Situation) Aquired KN03 Solution for Nitrate BOOST

Phosphate is holding Steady at 0.06 ppm so that showing Extra Feeding and Not Rinsing Frozen is working.

Nitrate is still at 1.0ppm, but better than the 0.5 pmm I had Sunday.

Since I can control P with a COMBO of (GFO & ATS PhotoPeriod), I'm not worried about P that much.

However if I turn up ALGAE Scrubber Photo Period, N may drop again.

So @tenurepro made me up a batch of KN03 solution that he used when his N is down.
Started today with 1ml of KNO3 and we'll see what N test's like tomorrow.

My Target for N = (2 ppm - 5 ppm)
I would like the P to remain between ( 0.05 ppm - 0.1 ppm)

I DID A BAD THING Yesterday (and it was GOOD!)

Before I got the KNO3, I wanted to Protect the SPS from Nutrient Depletion.

So I opened up the Mini Fridge, and reached to the back....
....for my Two Bottles of Coral Essential Aminos (Coral Amino Power and Coral Amino Grow).

Did a half dose, and I'll admit I did it twice over last day.

This morning the SPS looked Amazing!!!

I don't want to get into that Additive Habit (Additives), since in the Long run it's not a good thing....Leads to troubles.

My corals SPS were looking Great Without the Aminos.

FTS ( Yellow Filter For SLR) Like the Polyp Lab Filter Kit

I got one of the cheap Yellow Filters for my SLR.
2020-06-04_YellowFilter.jpg

It makes taking Blue Photo's way easier than using Photo Shop or Camera White Balance Setting.

2020-06-04_110G-SPS-BasementDT-YellowFilter.jpg

Really show's what's alive with Glowing Phosphoresnce.

Even that Tiny Spec of Orange on bottom rock scape, just above the Blurry Tang.
That's a JF Jack-O-Lantern rememant coming back.

Emerald Crabs ( AWESOME!! )) Macro Algae Issue Solved!!

I didn't take any BEFORE Photo's to show this issue.....However I had a bit of Macro Algae in DT that was getting annoying.
Little Clumps here and there, on Frag plug too. Some thicker Stringy Algae as well (not GHA).

I first tried plucking with Tweezers, but it would come back in a week.

So Last Week I got a couple of Small-Medium Emerald Crabs. I also got a few Fresh Snails (Smaller ones that can get into tight spots)

I totally forgot I added the Emeralds.
Today I noticed all the Nuisance Macro algae is Either Totally gone, or nicely trimed down (so pleant looking).
100% the Emerald Crabs did that.

ACHIEVED ( PERFECT STABLE PARAMETERS )

Finally....

ALK = 8.0 dkH (Stable)
CALC = 355 ppm (Stable)
MAG =1350 (Stable)
NO3 = 1.0 ppm (Stable)

PO4 = 0.06 ppm (Stable)

Salnity 52.1 (increasing slowly to 53)

All with Hard Work, Automation and close monitoring.

The Stable NO3 is kind of an unexpected Surprise, since it happened on it's own. KN03 top up helped after it came down.
I may be ending the KNO3 dosing since I'm tuning the Algae Scrubber Photo Period.

TACKLING CYANO ( NATUALLY ) More flow (one more Flow Pump)

I was thinking, Just thinking using ChemiClean (but worry about risks to bacteria levels)
Also thought of getting more Cyano Clean Bacteria (but it's expense).
Either way, both solutions don't fix the Root Cause, and my N&P is low so it must be flow.

Since the Cyano seems to be localized in lower flow spots....I ordered a cheap Gyre type CP-40 Pump.
Will place on front Left side of tank to hit the Low flow Spots. (I have no circulation pumps flowing Front to Back)

I did look at the Nero-5 Pump since I want something that doesn't stick out. It's pricey and doesn have direction control.
The Gyre Pumps have great flow adjustments with 2 indepedant Paddles. Low profile that is not a eye-sore too.

I already have a CP-40 for my Frag Tank. It broke and wore down on the Connector. But I fixed it using BONDIC UV light Glue. It's running like new. So my Trust in the CP-40 has gone up. All things wear, but if you can fix it. Fine by me.

BAD NEWS [Ice-Fire Enchinata] (RIP) ... Good News (Tank room for 1 more SPS)

The Ice Fire barely lasted a Week. RTN'd overnight.
I give up on ever having any Enchinata. Lost at least 4 over the years trying.

2020-06-11_IceFireRIP.jpg

At least the the SSC is doing GREAT. Two weeks+

2020-06-11_SSC.jpg

The SSC is the First SPS I notice when I glance at the Tank.

the Other Eye Catcher is the Ora Perlberry
2020-06-11_ORA-PerlBerry2.jpg

It's not perfect Condition (maybe too high, with the Burnt Tips), but hanging in there!!

And with Ice-Fire gone, it opens up room for 1 More NEW FRAG. Something Special

2020-06-11_JasonFox-SolarFlareMilli.jpg

I still wonder why the Enchinata's are so hard to keep. Lighting?

I know 100%, The Skill I lack is Proper SPS Placement. That's when you become an Expert.

CYANO PUMP ARRIVE (CP-40) MORE FLOW (Quiet Zone)

Finally after Weeks of Waiting the PUMP has arrived.

It will cover the Front to Back flow, on Left side. It crashes in the Large Clockwise flow the MP-60 Creates.

NO MY TANK HASN'T BLEACHED.....(Black and White Photo) Show the Pumps and Labels better.

2020-06-14_MoreFlowCyanoCP-40.jpg

Here is the back view in COLOR

2020-06-14_MoreFlowCyanoCP-40-Back.jpg

I think I got Flow covered. Programmed each pump in RANDOM mode. Plenty of mix up.

It the Extra Flow doesn't fix up the Cyano, I'll consider the CHEMICLEAN Treatment.

It did wonders on my Frag Tank, and no damage what so ever.
I would have to lower the lighting, since After ChemiClean Treament, the water goes SUPER CLEAR!!

I JUST ENGINEERED MYSELF (Out of a Reef Tank Job x3 ) Just have the Dirty Work to do.

Today I installed the Smart Doser, so I now have the Ability to Auto Dose and Adjust Dosing Autmatically with the AquaMon Alk Monitor (they talk to each other)
2020-06-14_SmartDoserIQ.jpg

First Trial is the Frag tank as I tune up the Logic.

2020-06-14_TankMateSmartDoserIQ-FragTank-EngineeredTotalAutoMation2.jpg

1) Water changes are already automatic on all 3 Tanks.
2) Top Ups the same
3) The Maitenance Minder does all the Thinking and scheduling.

Sure I have Skimmers to clean, Glass too, and the ocassional NO3 / PO4 test.
And feed fish.

This was alway my goal. Total Automation!!

I FEEL LOST with NOTHING TO DO,
Except Watch and Wait for SPS and other corals to grow up.

I really feel it today. I'm Bored, and need a new Goal/Hobby.
Nothing related to my fish Tanks.

I think I might dust off my Commodore Amiga and finish up the Restoration Project.

In in my Office behind me on a Desk, opposite side of my Tank.

2020-06-14_AmigaProject.jpg

It collected dust for decades, till I brought it out of storage in 2016. Had it seen I was a teen.

I spend 2 years on it, and got about 75% completed.
It an Modernation of a Retro 68000 Computer. Has Acient Drives, but in parrallel SSD, Flash, Modern Video, etc.
Runs DOS 3.1, Window 1.0 (if your ever saw it), Amiga OS, etc. (at the same time). One of the First Multi-Tasking Computer ever made.

Now I have to to finish, and when I do, might even sell it, or donate to a Museum.

CYANO Starting to clear ( WITH EXTRA FLOW ) No Need for ChemiClean?

I can tell the New Pump with Extra Flow Coverage is working. Just barely a day.

The
Green zones show best improvements, almost no Cyano. (The top left arch was the worst spot in the tank)
The
Yellow Zone is some improvement, tiny bit of Cyano hanging in there. (New Pump is right there so give it time)

The last remaing RED zone is a tough spot to target with flow. (Front to back Flow would be ideal, but impossible)
My Sea Swirl doen't rotate since the Gear got stripped when Snail jammed the rotator.
I'm now movated to fix it.

2020-06-15_CyanoClearingNewPumpFlow.jpg

I'll wait a bit.....Been only 1 day. Things may continue to improve.

I just added the Turbo Snails, and move over one Urchin from Frag Tank.
(They are clearing the Macro Algae) in Red Zone. The Lettuce Macro Algae is actually a Magnet/Trap for the Cyano.

OMG (Look what the ChemiClean Treatment did to my Frag Tank / Acro ) AMAZING!!!

2020-06-16_BlueTeniusSPS-AfterChemiClean.jpg

I've never seen anything like this.

I was actually thinking the Acro was gonig to die.

It's now showing better health than when I got it new.

Maybe with caution I might use ChemiClean it on the SPS Tank. It really clarifies the water quality.
Last resort only. Nothing is wrong, so why break something not broken. Small eye sore.
Risk is way too great to mess up AGAIN!!
