@Rakie what concentration do you use for melafix? That is a new to me.

Sorry buddy, I've not been super active missed this!

For melafix, I mix:

- Melafix Regular 1% strength I use 62.5mL/g.

- Melafix Marine 1.25% strength I mix 50mL/g

- Melafix Pond at 5% (which I recommend) I use 12.5mL/g.

Honestly, it's the best I've used. As I said, it's extremely gentle if used properly with a timer that you DO NOT IGNORE. If you are dipping multiple corals dip them all at once on eggcrate so they don't sit for an extra few minutes as you pull them out one at a time.

@WallyB -- Dip everything. Use melafix. I would not steer you wrong. I understand I always have strong opinions but I would only advocate something I'm absolutely sure of. I've used melafix on everything -- And that vendor buddy of mine I mentioned who sells to all the big name vendors? That's all he uses.

The information I pass on is never hearsay from nobodies. It's always quality information. I'm a huge believer in not speaking up if you aren't qualified to speak!

SPS TANK ( REFERENCE PHOTO ) Coral Essentials [ Amino / Grow ] Reef Nutritition [ OsterFeast/Reef Roids]

Yes, this is a WEIRD PHOTO. However it is FOR A PURPOSE.

I started Coral Essential Amino and Gro yesterday. (3 drops of Gro and 4 drop of Amino)
It caught my Attention at Atnic Lighting time, that things seem different. Stronger Phosphorescent Glow.

Hard to tell (also Early), so this photo taken will help me compare in a while if there is any improvement.

Like on the Monti which is Patchy.

I also am feeding corals a Mix of Reef Roids, OsysterFeast, with a touch of Polyp Booster. (EVERY 3rd day)

I wish I could dose aminos.
Everytime I dose the smallest amount, cyano is coming.

That sucks. It happens to some people, and with some aminos. For me the problem was always that Aminos didn't do anything. But I really like the CE stuff.

I think dosing aminos is about balance. Start slow and let your tank adjust. You might get a little cyano, but it's not the end of the world. Your tank will eventually balance and the cyano goes away. Just my opinion.

I think you are right. Especially in tanks as small as yours and mine.

Three Amigo (Carriberryi Anthias) UPDATE [ NO Sign of Amigo 3 ]

Weird, I don't know where the 3rd Anthias is, and not really sure which is which.

THIS ONE IS Out and already accustomed to tank. Eatting Frozen.

2018-12-21_Amigo1.jpg

One is cowering in under a rock edge, appears to try to eat, but I can't tell (THIS APPEARS TO BE THE ODD Anthais)

2018-12-21_Amigo#2.jpg

NO SIGN OF THE 3rd one (which should be paired up with #1).

I guess I have to be patient and wait. (or start looking in Sump)

CORAL ESSENTIALS UPDATE ( Amino/Gro Day 2 ) WOW!!

I don't need a camera photo comparison nor wait day/weeks.

I can tell there is something happening with Colors, and Growth/Recovery.

I didn't even have to wait for Actnics, the difference was noticeable during main CoralPlus/Blue Plus T5 Main Lighting time.

Putting colors aside, I see edges of my Monti's lighting up........Before they were fading.

IMPRESSIVE.

And when Actinic Blue Lights came on my Mouth Dropped!!

Where do you purchase your fish and coral. I am setting up a 165G system in Oakville and would be interested in your opinion of the places to check out for the highest quality livestock (both fish and coral). Thanks!

NEW PROJECT ( OLD 35G FRAG TANK with DT WC Water ) OVERHAULED for another Try ( TAKE 3 )

Here is what motivated me.....I started collecting my Loose Corals from my LPS/Mixed Tank. Been getting some Decent Credit at LFS towards DRY GOODS.

2018-12-23_MushRoomTradein.jpg
2018-12-23_Frags-Shrooms.jpg

Cyano is almost gone in SPS DT. Fading more and more on all Small Patches each day (Even though I ramped up Coral Feeding and doing Amino)
THE Cyano Clean is working and on schedule (Bottle says 8 weeks)

So I don't trust the Water Change water to re-use for my LPS Tank Quite yet.

This is where I will use the water change for now.

NO more QT (have enough with Fish QT Issues) , so the FRAG Tank needs to go back to ORIGINAL PURPOSE.

After two previous FRAG TANK attempts, I learned some fine things I wanted better (Most on the RACK SETUP)

THIS IS THE NEW SETUP (DRY)

31494908797_117848ed0d_o.jpg

And WET after doing a nice 30 Gallon Water Change on SPS DT

31494906187_c0a77ab2aa_b.jpg

IT's will run STANDALONE (not hooked up to DT)

Next I'm working on Lighting improvement.....

Frag tank looks good. Interested in some of what you've got going on though. You're using an air bubbler in one tube, is that to break surface tension or for some other purpose? And the impeller in a tube, what's that for? Why did you go with the racks broken up and not quite level like that?

The air bubbler is just short term (aeration), since I am polishing up the water (since I left old media that should be bacteria active in the Filter that is built into the Frag Tank).
Air bubbler will be removed.

The back filter box has nice flow, and breaks water surface twice (in/out) so I won't need bubbler for aeration. (I won't be running a skimmer on this Frag tank)
Frag tank worked for Fish QT so it's proven to have good filtration (IF Bacteria is active in the Media I have in there. [Seachem Matrix, and old dead frag rubble]

The OLD BROKEN impeller is just a cover for the PVC tube so nothing falls in. I will find a better cover.

As far as Multi Level Racks, and the Adjustable Magnetic Rack. That is for ability to have different kind of Corals. My mushrooms/richordia want very low light or they shrink up. SPS will want more light.
Also I didn't have enough Big piece of Egg Crate to make a proper rack. That large piece of Egg Crate I have is a perfectly cut Cover for the Frag Tank (if I ever want to add jump protection for fish)

So this is just hacking together whatever spare stuff I have.

Once I try some real frags (SPS) (LPS), mushroom, in the Frag tank, I can adjust.

Here is the BIGGER PLAN for the Frag Tank.

Thinking I might start up the OLD KALK Reactor (made 7 years ago), to not have to dose Alk/Calc

2018-12-23_FragTank3.jpg

As all I have for now is 1x T5. The Ballast can be expanded to 4 T5's, and I have a box full of OLD T5's (which now we know are good forever based on the BRStv video)

FIRST (FRAG) for Frag Tank [ Test / Trial / SACRIFICE ] Bird of Paradise SPS

I kept a 3 tips when I did some Damage Trimming recently.

Two best pieces have been put in FRAG TANK, and One in DT ( To Compare)

I can't think of any better SPS to test on. Bird of Paradise is Hardy, Grows Fast and can Demonstrate Colors when Happy.

And Finally THE LIGHTING

Hacked together Board, Screws, and WorkShop Light Hanging kit...

Got my hands on a RADION XR30 Used (first Gen).....
.... (Loaner to try for a couple of months) If I like it, I can buy it.

Bit rusty on the Fan Grill, scratched.....

but it works....

Learning how to Program using Aqualink/EchoSmart.......Better on Frag Tank than on a DT.

The little I tried....I do notice some interesting Glow/POP compared to the T5.

NEW FRAG ( Boxing Week Shopping) Bubble Gum Milli

For Boxing Week Shopping I got some Salt, Foods, Few Cowrie Snails and a nice new Frag.

46427009382_35b1afae56_c.jpg

I had a similar Frag in my Old Tank Setup. It died like all the rest.

Trying again, with New Hope, and higher Confidence this time.
