Fish are smarter than you think. Just scientifically proven. (Interesting Experiment, how they put a Mark on a Fish under chin, and it figures it's there in a mirror)

Of course, my Flame Hawk doesn't fit into the Smarter Species, like article says. Wrasse's have more smarts.

MANDARIN UPDATE ( Feel Good I RESCUED THEM ) Better Home / BETTER CARE.

I really glad I got over to LFS just as Shipment Came in.

They were all crammed into a small Basket, and pretty sure there wasn't much Live food

I SETUP and IDEAL QT
2019-02-22_MandarinQT.jpg

- Scoop of LIVE Sand From Refuge
- Some Live Rubble from Refuge
- Siphoned off thru Sieve ( Adult Tigger Pod)
- Siphoned off Copepod Farm NAPULI Sludge thru Micro Sieve
- Added some Phyto so Pods would continue to thrive.

The were shaken up / Stunned for a while but WOKE UP and Got Active (FOUND EACH OTHER)
2019-02-22_MandarinPair-QT.jpg

And BOTH are eating The Live Food already!!!

Kind of Cool. I NEVER had a PAIR of Mandarins Before (Female & Male).

You've been all about pairs with this tank!
Let's hope I break the "Widow Curse" for this QT/DT on this try.
Actually I already may have, if the Gobies BOTH show up.

NO more MaxiJet Killer Pumps in QT#2!!
Got a cheap Mini-Biofilter for filtration since my other one is on the Last Pair of Gobies in QT #1.

Tomorrow the last pair of Gobies leave to @tenurepro ' s place.

Wally you broke it twice with both Pairs of Gobi.

The problem is a lot of not so great collectors still use cyanide, surprisingly...

I would encourage you to find high end fish vendors in Canadia if you want something temperamental. You can probably find a vendor that fully QTs fish.

Would be worth it for some species!

Actually I have not broken the "Widow Curse" yet..

TWO REASONS:

  • I haven't seen gobies at all. Fine, they are still hiding.

  • And the MALE Mandarin did not make the night.
I kind of was expecting that, since all the (many) Females were healthy (active), and I had to choose one of the few 3 males.
All the males didn't look great (weak) compared to the Females.
I took a chance on the best male, and that didn't work out. No concern they were both cheap.

The female is doing amazing, and I'll be more patient next time to find a male.

FTS (Reference Photo) After some HOUSE KEEPING ( New Arch is Clean )

I'm actually surprised this Carbsea arch didn't go thru a Major UGLY Stage like last time. Tiny bit of brown Algae and they it went away.

I decided to do some (Bad Frag [Cutdowns/Extractions] ), I hate looking at Frags dwindling away.

Movef a few Frags onto the Arch, and spread things out a TINY bit (to avoid future overlaps).

46278221255_8a2015b6bd_h.jpg

Tank looks so-so, but better then before with not-healthy Frags. (Can you spot the Neon Gobies? Nope, neither can I, since they are ? )

Two new Frags too!!

- Got a FRESH Forest Fire Digi (even though I have one already...growing in a Odd Shape)...

- This is just an experiment to figure out why my FF keeps going from (Good, to Bad, to Great , to Bad, and now again recovering)
-----------> Want to compare with a Fresh New Piece.

- And something special for the NEW ARCH ( a PERLBERRY FRAG)

-----------> Seem I can't keep the sensitive and elusive ICE FIRE, since I just had to cut it down as it was Slowly STN. (Perlberry has a similar look, but easier to keep)

New Lighting Adjustment (TRIAL)

Picture say's it all. Basically I removed my Dimmable 39W T5. Wasting Space, when rest of T5's are 54W.

With Purple Plus 39W Bulb Gone, got a Giessman PowerChrome Super Purple in 54W (replacing one Coral Plus).
I already removed one Blue Plus in past and replaced it with Atinic.

Yipee!! One Neon Goby is around!!

During Total Darkness, I briefly turned on my Blue LED strip (low dim)

2019-02-24_One-NeonGoby.jpg

He was swimming around. Didn't see the other, but I'm now confident both are ok.
They are probably exploring to see if things are safe. They will be out eventutally.

That's a Relief. And his belly looks Full too!!

Nope. That's the problem. If each come out at different times, I can't tell if both are in there safely.
Just knowing that both are in the tank would bring me some sense of relief.

NEON GOBY ( Swimming Actively....Out at Night) No sign of 2nd one

Seems the one Goby is getting used to coming out at night.
Now I'm really getting concerned about the 2nd one.

You've probably seen both already and don't know it. There's always a chance they've unpaired also.. they are more likely to pair when under stress fir security. Once they're feeling safe they may go their separate ways.

MANDARIN Update ( Replacement )

Since the Male Mandarin Died in less than a day, I got credit.
But no more Classic Mandarin Males left (they actually died in the Store)

But there were healthy Green Versions. Smaller, but really Healthy.

2019-02-28_NewGreenMandarin.jpg

Never had Green Mandarin before.

2019-02-28_GreenMandarinPair.jpg

So I got a PAIR (Male/Female).

Not sure where these will go. Either in SPS tank Refuge, or in Kitchen DT LPS Tank.

They Stay in 10 Gal QT for a long while.

They are actually living in a COPEPOD Farm since I've been TRANFERING PODS from my Copepod Farm and Feeding Phyto to QT to sustain them.

THE Mandarins WILL GROW and WILL GET FAT, on unlimited Live Food.
Maybe later I can train on some other foods.
