@Troylee @Jasonak @Reefing102 @Mschmidt

Going to call myself out on this one. Tissue loss from before turned into algae takeover and further decline. Snipped the tip in hopes of the good stuff healing over… went the opposite way… not much flesh left at all…

IMG_1304.jpeg

Side note my lasermelon from about 2 or 3 years ago still good :)

I went back and counted real quick looks like started with 14, so 9 months in and were down to half, thats a bummer. Ghost was ruff like that to, cool coral that just thrived in some and not in others tanks, Reefing102 was beautiful and then right before the end RTN on him and Redfoxtang grew a awesome piece its interesting how all these corals do everybody's little micro cosmos.

I bought a BC Lasermelon right before this contest started and I lost mine too. Hate to say this, but feel a little better knowing it wasn’t just me.

It’s an amazing piece! The class was labeled expert so it was kinda known it wouldn’t be easy! It sucks for anyone to lose a coral but part of the game.

It goes both ways Ive had stuff that was easy die in my tank and vice versa. Cant keep a zoa to save my life. It can be frustrating to say the least. But if super cool awesome stuff was easy we would all have it :)

Yeah, honestly, the laser sucks in a lot of ways.

It’s kinda like the Ulysses of Sps in my opinion and my relationship with this coral over the last 12-14 years has been tumultuous if I’m being polite. Was literally a piece of garbage for years until blue LEDs came along.

But if it makes you feel any better, recently as of only few months ag lost two hand size colonies in my halide tank after I discovered a rusty magnet in the same tank on one of my gyers.

Everything else was fine. It’s just kind of a finicky jerk of a coral and I kinda hate it if I’m being honest.Lol

@Troylee @Jasonak @Reefing102 @Mschmidt mine is still growing. Kinda encrusting for sure. I feel like i won’t outgrow the others in the next 3/4 months so I’m just going to experiment with it. Currently in higher flow and higher PAR area during peak (like 5-600 for 6 hours) with mainly white lights (Straton SPS setting). Looks happy though!

You run the SPS Plakativ for 6 hours? At what percent? Also is it the regular setting with UV or the + setting with no UV?

Yup! 6 hours. Acclimated my corals to all that whiteness lol well i finally just upped the percentages. I rented a par meter a while back. At 70%, it was measuring 500 on average on the middle part of the tank (20” height, so around 9-10” below water line). It was 70% for a good year with great colors all around, but only some grew at nice rates. The past month i upped it to 85% on some parts of it since its controllable. More PE, definitely encrusting/more nubs forming. So far no bleaching or obviously upset corals (maybe the goni). Just to be clear I have the gen 1 stratons with “stock” settings of the lights (no color adjustments)

I’m on week 3 of Straton pros coming from a T5 fixture, so I’m slowly ramping up. I’m only at one hour of SPS Plakativ so far. Cool to hear about the extra knobs and better PE with the more intense light you gave them.

Nice! Definitely go easy on the percentage/par! I came from t5s and I tried to match it with these Stratons. Hugeee bleaching event

I was advised to start at 275 par max and increase par by 25 every 2 weeks. So far that advice has been working out nicely, I’m 3-weeks in and everything is still happy.
