holly molly just looed up the price on these little tanks. dang...
there sold out anyway but was taken back by the price tag.

lovely idea I liked the 95% enclosed really helps with evap.

I got a ridiculous deal on it from a member parting ways with it. I wasn’t even in the market for a pico. Just browsing the for sale and saw it, and impulse bought it because the deal was so good

I also have seen them oj eBay once in a while around 200$ For a full setup with light

I not really in the market either but I want a nano/pico.
I so need to finish out the basement so I can have all the tanks...of course I got to be able to afford it all and do the maintenance.

I did check out ebay i'll keep an eye out for crazy good deals. I have enough reefing projects anyway.

I declare this thread bad for my reefing health, as I find myself wanting to duplicate this. I'm going to have to resist!

Nice work!
Well then you better not look at more pics! I just took these. It’s in ramp up lighting

Still has not needed one water change. I do need to clean the acrylic once every 1-2 months. I never had to before and I realized hermits killed 2 or 3 of my snails to steal shells

I added 3 small snails today to replace the lost ones

Great tank. I'm curious:
- Could you show a picture of the lid?
- Do you get salt creep?
- Why do you still get evaporation if sealed?
- Do you dose Alk to enable coral growth, or do you have some kind of continuous Alk source that dissolves over time (rock?)?
- How did the tank do with the dead-snail related ammonia spike?

Is it still going well?

Only if I drip/spill
- Why do you still get evaporation if sealed?
Over the rear filtration area, there is a fan. It is one of the few spots that can act as a vent and allows water evaporate. I only need to refill the gravity ato about once a month
- Do you dose Alk to enable coral growth, or do you have some kind of continuous Alk source that dissolves over time (rock?)?
Growth is a huge problem - the tank is so small I was needing to remove / replace corals every 2-3 months. I started running out of small things to put in it. I really liked having torches but it was not long before they were able to reach the surface or walls. I stopped regular dosing to suppress growth. Now every 1-2 months I’ll add some all for reef to replenish alk, ca, and trace
- How did the tank do with the dead-snail related ammonia spike?
Not good. I am not sure if it’s from the death/decay itself, or the lack of a clean up crew member, but the only times I get algae blooms is when a snail dies.

The tank is stable but very reactive to what we would consider small events. 2 hermits and 2-3 snails keep it clean. If I lose just one member it’s almost always followed by negative visual signs.
I remove the empty / decaying shell as soon as I find it, remove 1 plastic cup of water, and replace with 1 plastic cup of water from my main reef. Pluck out a replacement snail, a smaller one, and put in the pico.
Is it still going well?
Yes aside from gsp that took over a branch and is spreading onto other rock.
I used to be able to peel The gsp off, like pulling off a piece of tape from a package. It seems to have adapted and now it grows completely fused to the rock.

I am considering completely redoing this tank and using it for another purpose / goal

High end mushroom grow out tank…magic carpet and jawbreakers

Gut it all
Crushed live rock substrate
Few shrooms to start it off
Probably wouldn’t need anything more

Leave it alone and as they split they attach to rubble substrate

I can take the rubble piece and glue to a plug

Just a passing idea of mine I keep coming back to

Thoughts ?

I like the idea of just making it a mushroom grow-out tank! Are you planning on moving all the coral in there into your main tank?

Yes since the tank is a pico with only a few corals I could easily move them in the main tank. And then move these 2 into the pico to get started while I source a a magic carpet and jb

Awesome tank! I love it!

What type of snails do you use? Sorry if I missed that.
Smaller astrea. Approx .75”

If I buy a bundle of approx 25 snails I just grab 2-3 of the smallest ones. I get them from SBB and include with coral orders periodically.
