Let me start off by saying its a smoking deal on both of these chillers.

I own a 240g tank (including sump) - Which if I leave alone without fans will spike upto 83 or 84 ( AZ outside temp is 120F inside is 76F)

I heard a lot of good thing about JBJ ARtica and not much about Active Aqua.

So I need opinions.

Around 10 year used 1/4 HP JBJ Artica for $200 - Only runs during summer and the house stays 76 all the time as per the owner.
OR
New Active Aqua 1/4 HP for $200 - Never Used.

I used a JBJ Artica for some years and I think it's well made. But a 10 year old chiller that has been in regular use...??? That's getting kind of old. I'd pay for a new one before I'd buy one that old.

I've never even heard of a Active Aqua chiller. And new at $200... is that new at a store. or new from a private individual who just never used it? If new as a retail price at $200, I would be very wary.

Good luck, tough call. I'd keep shopping if I were you. BTW, I'm in SW Florida and we don't see 95+ hardly every, but we see 92 to 94 every single day for about 4 or 5 months! And we keep our house at 79 to 80. My tank has no chiller and runs 81 to 82 . And the only fan is a ceiling fan high above the tank on a vaulted ceiling.

It's new from a private individual who never used it. Yeah that is what I was thinking myself about the 10 year old chiller. But temp use until I get a new one probably then it wouldn't matter maybe

And if you get a new one, this inexpensive used one can be a backup/spare. Always good to have a spare.
