U happen to dose fuel??

I only dose ALK and Ca.
Yesterday I added 900gr of Seachem Mg to my 120ltr barrel of top up water which will be placed to have sufficient water during a 3 weeks leave.
With the Triton test results in mind, I also added jodium and potassium to get to the desired levels.

I heard of people using fuel having copper show up in the triton results. So if u are not doseing anything besides what u say the copper could be something around the tank leaking in.

Wish you luck

I did a test with copper last night which resulted negative.
I am not saying there is something wrong with the Triton results, but something is wrong with the Triton result. [emoji33]

As also the sample which I send for local analysis resulted negative, I am not going to worry about this.
The next Triton test will be decisive.

Yea could have a fluke

But I would venture to say with all the post about copper test being poopy to the consumer besides the 150 dollar one that a copper test done on ur end might not show the results as low as a triton one

But what it ultimately comes down to is the health of ur fish and corals if they look fine o well lil copper never hurt anything

ATO water tank prepared, auto feeding installed, new filter socks, skimmer cleaned, new carbon, water tests done.
I think it is time for holidays.

Just to be sure, I also installed a webcam.
To monitor the tank till algae take over the glass.

Hope the holidays going well mate!
The tank should have no dramas while you're away with how well you set it up before leaving. She's looking good!

The holidays are great.
But leaving a tank for a long period is always a little troublesome. All is going well I think.
For the first 6 days nobody checked the tank except for the catsitter who also gave a sheet of nori while she came to check and play with the cats [emoji14]
Now after 13 days away I received a message from my wife that the skimmer went nuts. Cup is filling up in 1 minute. I am not sure what is the matter. Something in the water must have triggered it but from a distance you cannot tell.
The skimmer was cleaned 2 weeks ago but it looks dirty again.
So for the next 6 days, I let the skimmer cup empty itself in the sump again. Luckily I have water prepared to do a water change as soon as I am back.
Skimmer cleaning will also be added to the to-do list.

Yea no matter how much we plan its always stressful! Last year i actually had to cut a weekend interstate short as my tank sitter noticed water leaking on the floor and after hours of cleaning up it wouldn't stop. We diagnosed a seam leak and i had to fly back early. When i got home the tank was half empty and it was quite the ordeal to fix!

Strange about the skimmer overflowing, has the water height in the sump raised? If not i agree something in the water must have set it off.
Im sure its all fine and you'll come back to some nice new growth on your corals!

Matt, the sump water level was indeed the first suspect but that seemed to be ok.
It will be interesting to see how the corals are going to react in the next week without the skimmer properly working.
Unfortunately I will not see the difference but such a test I will definitely do again when all is cleaned and water changes are done.
I did a similar test in the previous tank where the skimmer was progrmmed to work for 3 hours and then 2 hours not. I did not see any difference within 1 month so I kept it like that.
I like a skimmer most for the oxygen it puts in the water. And not primarily for the filtration.

Issues with flow...
Overflow and return are both at the blinded side. The wave makers are also at the same side.
Below a pic. Green marked are the 2 MP40s.

I find that in between the 2 wave makers there is very little flow and also at the opposite side of the tank.

Would it be a good idea to change the position of 1 MP40 to the other side to create a circular flow pattern?

What are the pros and cons of circular flow?
Especially for sps...

Many people with peninsula tanks start off with both units on the one side and eventually move one over or add more power heads to the far side. I'd give it a try.

After 2 and a half weeks I am finally back home and could see the tank damage.
I started by cleaning the glass to have a good look. It took me almost 2 hours to get all the hard algae of. I use a Tunze magnetic cleaner but wit only the plastic heads. When using the steel blades, I scratch the glass to much.

2 big acro colonies were found bleached. As well as one frag that was placed on the bottom.
The skimmer is still going nuts even after complete cleaning.
Filter socks were replaced.

I believe the skimmer is behaving strangely because of the top off water. Before leaving I added magnesium to the rodi water to slowly raise the level after the Triton test result.
The magnesium might be causing the skimmer to go nuts.

I did all tests and found all parameters in check. Only Alk was about 7.0. That is 0.3 lower than when I left but still pretty good.

Tomorrow I make 20% water change, clean the sand bed and hope this will solve the skimmer issue.

There was even some growth... corals are starting to take off.

Not bad for leaving for two weeks. I also have a peninsula that I am trying to avoid any powerheads on the far side (5'x2'x2'). So far, two Tunze 6105s seem to easily get to the other end and recirculate water back to the overflow. You have a lot of open space and 1 less foot, so I would think your MP40s might cover it unless you see indications of a problem.

Flow... on my 60x30x18 peninsula, I've tried to angle the returns and the 2x 3000gph wavemakers down the glass on each side. Generates some nice, random flow, but it is not very intense, especially at the far end. I too have already considered adding an MP40 to the far end. Don't wanna do it, but I might have to. Just to see what it would do, I dropped a Gyre 130 that I had in at the far end. Yup, if I could stand the look, that'd solve my flow problems.

I will say that the 6105s hit the end of my 5' tank with some velocity. I have an MP60wqd as well, and it isn't even close when it comes to covering that length.
