I’ve been getting things together for over a year now, I have a 55g that sprung a leak so what better time than now? So step one was getting the steel beam up to support the floor and eliminate wobble. I’m setting the tank on the first floor and the 40g sump is going in the basement.

Got my stand hardware yesterday, plan is to make the stand look like a trunk with a false back wall so you can’t see the plumping then my wife is going to use it for storage. The sending and third pictures are of what got me thinking I was going to do this while we were at some broad shop my wife wanted to go to.

Plumbed my rodi line in, I saw a lot of people were using the saddle style but I didn’t want to do that. I used a 1/4 inside diameter valve for a refrigerator ice maker I found at ace hardware. There is a built in shut off valve on it.

I do have another 120 I could use but don’t have the baffles made for it yet. I’m going to use enough union ball valves that it will be very easy to drain out and swap in the future. I’m going to see how this works and if I don’t like something I can build to suite later on. Was considering making a Long Island sound tank with the spare 120, I work at a marina so I have the opportunity to just snatch stuff out of the water

Made a screen top for the sump today. I put a check valve on the home sump pump out flow pipe and drilled a small hole in it for the waste line of the rodi. Hung the uv unit over the sump and started filling it. Put about 8 gallons of fresh mixed saltwater in the first chamber and took 15 gallons out of the 55g tank I’m taking down. Using some of the old water because I’m going to put live rock in the sump with some long time cured rock and just let the sump cycle for a while until the tank is fully up.

got the last of the livestock out of the 55 today and into their temporary 40 home. Took out the last of the live rock and put it into the new sump and set up the uv sterilizer to dump into the filter sock from the return chamber. Hopefully once the 55 is in the trash I can start the stand next week!
