hi, i will have a 125 gallon reef aquarium later this year, and i'm thinking of my stocking plan. I will upgrade the 125g in a year or 2 after i get it, maybe to a 180 or 200. I would keep these fish in a 20 gallon qt tank for 1.5 weeks. These are the fish i am planning on having at first, i will add more later:

Sailfin tang (may be to big for a 125g... are they slow growers? Would they last in a 125g for 1-2 years? - would get from local petco

2 occ. Clownfish - would get from local petco

One spot foxface - would get from local petco

peaceful small wrasse - would get from local petco

good start, you will be able to add way more fish than this into a 125 though, just over time. I do suggest going to LFS over petcos, but i have heard some petco are better than others. Still i would check out other stores if you havent already. Also idk what medication is in the qt but qt is going to need to be longer than 1.5 weeks with medication to be effective

Here is your plan, 20 Blue Tang, 10 Yellow tang, 20 Purple firefish, and last 30 blue star wrasse. About 1 gallon per fish should do it.

Yep, I was joking. But all joke aside -

2-3 Tang
4-7 Wrasse depend on rock layout and if BB or sand
2 Clown
2-3 Goby
1-2 Juv Angels (You will have to either upgrade or sell them when they get bigger)
30-50 Snails / hermit depend on your aquascape works

1 inch of full grown fish per gallon is the suppose rule I think, so max would be about 10-12 Fish, unless you add your sump volume which could be up to 14 before it's crowded. Again, really depend on your rock layout / filtration.

Edit:

Also, please please do not get fish from petco. All their fish is in 1 system which you have no clue if it has any parasite on it or not. Would rather you support your LFS or some reputable online fish store for safer choice. Last thing you want is one that has some kind of disease you dont know about and kill all your fish.

Lol, there is the real answer from LAX, but i would switch juvenile angelfish to genicanthus angelfish in a pair or a trio just my personal preference, also will his be a mixed reef or fowlr or sps tank? I think 10-14 is a good estimate as fish size will matter and activity level of different species as well

you have lots of options for fish though, especially the smaller species like gobies, blennys, chromis, etc
