Today Brandon and Presley came over to help me set the tank on the stand. Josh couldn’t make it, something about his son being born today. The excuses some “friends” will stoop to not to lift a tank...

Anyways, we got the tank set and I mocked up the plumbing on the return side. The previous owner had removed the center box and plugged the holes. (1” and 3/4”) He added a ghost overflow. I removed the plugs and going to run both my returns here. I’ll run the return lines up to the water line and have two check valves on the return pumps. I figured I’d use the holes vrs hang over the back returns.

I went ahead and tossed some water in there after I ordered my plumbing. Hope the plumbing will be here before Friday so I can plumb it this weekend. The tank has not had water in it for 2 years or so. Figured I’d use this time to test it and give it a good cleaning. I added one MP40 for now with the foam gaurd to help get the dust out and, of course, play with the wave! 1B6791D1-E1A3-4462-8625-8AF7B4544AFB.jpeg 46F0C7B6-7D9D-4913-B2AA-A61883517E79.jpeg

Sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for my plumbing. I added the second MP40 and cut down my returns some. Bored, bored, bored... can’t really do anything until it’s plumbed and leak tested. Then I have to make RODI for 24hrs... 899F89BE-F1D4-4FE1-8E86-5FD120EE8BDF.jpeg

The dimensions of this tank are awesome! When I upgrade I want the same thing. Following along!

I picked up some rock from a local guy breaking his tank down. Really wanted the large shelf rock. Just need to figure out hot to set it so it looks good and is sturdy.

I figured I would hook up my new Apex that I bought last November. Had a few hiccups but they were all my fault. Got them worked out and I am loving the new Apex. I only have the AP700, T5s and two MP40s on it so far but love the new EB8s. I ordered some wire management strips for under the tank.

Trying to keep the wires hidden and accessible. Messed around with some orange trim around the tank but not sure about it.

Going to drain the tank tomorrow and attempt to get it a bit more level. Then fill it 3/4 way and salt it so I can start setting rock. Still waiting for the rest of my plumbing. Hope to get it plumbed soon!

LOOKING FOR INPUT...

I leveled the stand today. Took shims
Stacked 4/5 high on both back sides to level the back. The front 6 down posts all neeed one shim inserted at different depths. The shims stacked that high bothers me. I was going to take them out and glue them together at least. The tank is sturdy, level ad has no wobble after is shimmer it. Will this hold up over time?

The shims are stacked square not in a wedge. 3D3BF2B7-EC8E-4556-8A64-999400B8470C.jpeg 9D85C566-E453-44B6-90B0-D4964CDF8A6F.jpeg 76632705-A155-48E9-A180-F05377B9C980.jpeg 5B8D853A-5263-4AC1-A81E-41EE7CED7A07.jpeg

Well, I figured out my shim ordeal. I ended up ripping a 3/4” board and only had to add one shim on the back side. Worked out perfect.

I also added some wire management strips under the tank for all the wires coming from the back of the tank. (Lights and MP40s)

BUT....all things are not roses. Figured I’d share my screw ups also! I was adding water to the tank from my mixing station in the garage. I have a hose I can run inside and pump water in. Well...I didn’t realize I had it wide open and the hose came out of the tank. (My son usually holds the hose) and it sprayed water EVERYWHERE before I could shut off the pump.

Sprayed all the equipment on the new tank, sprayed the outside of the other tank. What a mess, water was going into our bedroom closet and under the sofas. Our Blue and Gold Macaw is screaming at me. What fun! This is why I keep towels next to the tank. On the bright side, the wife will be happy I mopped the floor and washed a load of towels.

But wait it gets worse! While I was “Mopping” the living room floors I did not close my valves on the mixing station. I was pulling from both barrels to inside the house. So the top barrel drained into the bottom barrel and filled it up. After I put rock on the hose and turned down the pressure going inside I turned on the pump and the water overflowed the bottom barrel, popped out a wire grommet and soaked the garage.

I hate fish tanks! Just for reference I can pump 35g of water inside in 5 min or so! Also added a picture of the kind of water pressure I have at the mixing station pump. 037B7BEF-9002-48AE-91D9-59925CF359BE.jpeg 42E8A5B9-633A-443F-9868-324486969DE3.jpeg 77303532-39FB-4DEC-8250-4F224FDE7B08.jpeg A871DC24-2381-4E74-83DC-2BC4D4F0B68D.jpeg C803F155-806C-44B0-A411-5E1088F3283C.jpeg E32ABB58-6801-4FBA-B946-FB473B5C98A5.jpeg 8122C625-0DDB-488B-84C2-10ECC0B8B278.jpeg 74663140-C4AD-40ED-B078-D4A887A0033A.jpeg

Well that just stinks! That's a lot of pressure coming from a mixing station!

Hope you didn't get any salt water in all of those electronics. That could have been a very expensive mishap.

So far no issues with “mopping” the floors, walls and ceiling! Lol

I started cleaning up the wires and mounted the two brick brackets I had laying around. I have 7 more bricks to mount but that will have to until I swap tanks. Love having access though the front panel. Makes maintance so much easier.

I’ve got 50g of rodi water in the tank so far and still level. Going to add another 50g and then play with my rock scape. Anyone want to come hold my hose :D

What else is there to do on a Friday night @ 10:30 other than play with your rock work?
I have 80g of salt water in the tank and slowly taking rock from my curing barrel.

Not quite sure where I’m going with this yet but I’m trying to make some swim channels for my tangs. Sorry for the crappy pics and the rock work may actually look crappy. Water is cloudy and so is my eye site. I’m exhausted and may hate my direction in the AM. I’m done for tonight... 757E8506-EA43-46F1-8149-D0198B9B5C56.jpeg F8A2EC69-C604-458B-812A-8D5DF32ACA7E.jpeg FD1AE2DB-1C4B-4937-95E1-7BAF2B929ECA.jpeg A2A5E18E-0ACC-4AC0-84C7-9BEFF4A05AF3.jpeg 842BF102-5C7B-4590-B627-271F279A62EF.jpeg

I like the rock work. Good set up for the peninsula. Can’t wait to see it with the Fuji pink

I plumbed the tank up today. I hate 45 angles but came out well. Plumbing the pumps was fun squeezing between the stand and the sump.

I’ve added 5 of the 7 bags of sand and I’m waiting for it to clear up before adding the other two bags. Then I’ll leak test the drains. I already have water sitting in the return lines thanks to the check valves. Fixed a couple of leaks at the unions, nothing major! Hope the rest goes as well.

Here are a picture or two of the plumbing... 0360F662-A36A-4D99-ABC6-ADEF6DDF8A46.jpeg E7E633F5-A21D-4DDE-A5C2-E60E0F73D904.jpeg E0C4B6F5-8AC1-4B41-A877-08D8B225912A.jpeg F9DACFB1-EFED-405D-89BF-67E566C9C8A7.jpeg 6212304A-0E60-4532-B4F7-5155D5381541.jpeg AF21D82A-7D09-46B9-A285-B6B4A5702773.jpeg 7F3F58C4-9475-41E9-B338-A81ADEB2360B.jpeg 68719147-514D-460D-9DF0-944797AC95A4.jpeg 3B5F337D-A8B5-4BB8-8E1E-4805C20AE474.jpeg 5D6ACE8C-6060-4C70-8334-4B71EFD8C82C.jpeg 4DE4D937-9E2D-4B94-858A-C9F10433F583.jpeg 592BC5F2-F91F-433E-A1AB-4B69215257C6.jpeg 8CCE4C9D-35C7-4E61-9954-AEFE9BCB59C6.jpeg AD293E3F-0DCF-4366-9EAB-0AFFD5FC37F7.jpeg B6DE38E3-3079-4D52-8C4B-99627A80EC34.jpeg 5A44FD06-CD70-4335-863A-562DEDDC5D55.jpeg
